Hi there. I have a question for those who are using a D500 and Sigma 150-600C as well as a TC. If so what are your findings ie. I would much appreciate some feedback. Thanks in anticipation!

I cannot speak to your specific situation with your Sigma zoom tele lens.

I can offer this advice that applies to any zoom tele and a tc: Add the tc only when you have exceeded the zoom's max focal length. If you add it and use it at shorter focal lengths, you will likely be degrading image quality results from those that could be achieved without the tc attached. And AF performance may suffer too depending on available light.

I use the Sigma 150-600 C and Sigma 1.4 TC on a Canon R5. I only say “use” because I own both lens and the teleconverter. My use has been limited because I got the TC to lengthen the lens but the cost in sharpness and light gathering has been too high. The TC comes in a nice case, so it should be okay as long as the dust doesn’t penetrate the zipper.

I will whole heartedly agree greyfox. I had the same situation with my Canon 5D4. The lens was great, but the TC spoiled the pictures.

IMO, TC's are only worthwhile on f4 or faster primes or f4 zooms - otherwise, optimize the IQ of your native lens and crop and use pixel enlargement software for larger printings.

The 900 mm equiv. you now have should be enough with the D500 - but you MUST have optimized your IQ to get decent cropping and enlargement ! This means having a stable support and/or having a high shutter speed/ISO. 8-(

I've used the D500 with a Sigma 500-600mm C plus a 1.4 TC over the past several years. I find it useful but there is still a point where the distance to the subject is too great and a clear photo is impossible. I also find the D500 porduces a good deal of noise. I bought a D780 and love it. Minamal noise and nice clear photos.

I don't see where he says that. I think quality always prevails.

Why do you think he has a 500D DX with a 150-600 and wants a tele-extender ??

Hi yes that is correct ordinarily I am able through the use of hides and the odd time when the subjects are tame and easy to approach to get sharp pictures - but the reason for my interest in a TC is the fact that I have found a spot (public) where there is a Kingfisher that I cant get close enough to because he always perches on the other bank about 75 feet away and although I can get many pictures I cant get the sharpness I want.

Hi, yes, recently I got a decent image of a Kingfisher with 400 f4 and 1.4X on a 80D APSC. I have been on the fence about getting a 2X, but after thinking more about Kingfishers and Kestrels I have ordered a used Canon 2X III to put on the 400 DO. This will give 800mm f8 + the 1.6 crop factor = 1280mm full frame equivalent and still have AF on the 80D or 1D mark IV or, on the Sony A9 IF I can find an adapter that will allow use of the 400 DO.

Don't falsely equate the performance of other brands with Canon EOS technology.

Alas, the brands involved in the OP don't equate to Canon EOS technology, especially not in the area of teleconverters.
