I think Ring cameras are cordless, and recordon the cloud, so you can access them from anywhere, and stealing them won't helpthe vandals. I'd check them out. I think they are from Amazon.

Thanks!

Wyze.com several to choose from - you can put a micro SD card in them and they can transmit to the web (although you probably don't have a WIFi connection if you have no power). BUT - if you are renting it out I doubt it is legal to record without consent and if you do anyway it will be in-admissible in court.

It's not for rent. I looked at the WYZE because of a note from someone who views the Hog but isn't a member. Apparently their cards record constantly - they aren't motion instigated.

I really have no idea.

Another thing to consider is the cost of the vandalism taking place. If it is perhaps some beer cans left on the property that is one thing. If buildings are being torn down, windows broken and so on, that is something else.

Busted windows. Stolen doors. That's the type of stuff.

Simply Safe has a very reasonable alarm package with cameras and they have the ability to talk to the criminals as well as notify the police which respond very quickly when they know someone is in the home. The system is extremely easy to install and is completely wireless. Worth a look

I'll look into that.

Kathy from past experience with County LEO even with Photos they usually don't do anything and after reading the rest of your post it would be a waste of money.
Somebody made the suggestion of getting power to it and renting it out.
Or Sell it.
Thats what I ended up doing with my Old farm and I was only 100 miles away from it.

Sorry. As long as I'm alive, that's not going to happen! I totally get that it might be a smart move. But the farm is my income and the house goes with it.

I believe you are fighting a losing battle here. I know of one brand, Eufy, that has cameras with a built in solar panel. You would have to check that it would record to an SD card in the camera. While some cameras have built in wifi, I don't think there are any that also have a router, firewall, and web service built in, which are necessary to get on the internet. Someone would have to stop by, retrieve the SD card and view the videos on a pc/tablet. This is a tough one.

I'll look at Eufy. The farmer is there every few days.

We had a, almost, similar problem. We owned a fairly large property in a rural town about 2 hours from where we lived, that had a lovely white high concrete wall surrounding it. It was rented out and the tenants were long term and nice people, but they could never catch the low lifes that painted graffiti on the fence. Police apologised they could do nothing unless they caught them in the act. But they did give me the name of their likely suspect who lived not far away from the property.
I tracked him down and had a quite a good long chat with him. Never accused him but offered him a deal.
I paid him $10 a week to be in charge of security. He didn't get paid if the fence was ever graffitied.
For the next 12 months, maybe a bit longer, no graffiti. Then we sold it, but for $500 a year it was cheap security.
Maybe a version of this approach could help.

Not sure there would be anyone around to do that - particularly at night.

Have not had security cameras for about 3 years. The ones I did have were installed by ADT. Unless they have GREATLY improved the night time quality of the camera image they are almost useless. I couldn't recognize me in the image the quality was so bad. Pretty good during daylight hours but not worth a darn at night Kathy.

She's off the grid. Cameras need a Wi-Fi connection. Trail cameras need someone to actually go to the camera regularly to access the sd card. I don't think cameras are the answer.

Thanks. And I believe they require electricity and internet, no?

Good to know. In the description they didn't mention "event driven" or "motion detection," but only constant and that a card would last about 2 days (obviously continual).

Renters are the ones who caused the vandalism. Getting water and power back is WAY beyond my means. Selling it is out of the question, as it is our old homestead and has been in the family since 1835. So thanks, for responding, but no.

Seems the real problem is the kind of folks you are renting it out to. You need to have signed strict rental contracts that stipulate the renters are financially responsible for any damages or vandalism. And take full inventory and photos of the property, inside and out ,BEFORE renting it, so you can have photographic proof of vandalism.

Any bad renters that have full access, will just vandalize and remove any security cameras and then do their deeds.

There are lots of security systems with cameras that work on battery and will connect by internet so they can be monitored from anywhere in the world, I use Simplisafe system.

BUT they have to have a wireless internet connection within range of their base station in order to be monitored by you and/or a local authorities or monitoring services. So again you have to have some power . My Simplisafe base station will work for 30days on internal battery without power if I have a power outage, and the cameras and intrusion alarms all have internal batteries that can many months. But you still will need at the least a satellite wireless service for the cameras to transmit their video of any intruders or vandals to any monitoring service and/or your computer or phone.

That is the best I can think of right now to tell you.

There are many event driven cameras that can function just fine off the grid and record events to a memory card. Several can run for months on a rechargeable battery. Naturally those will need to get manually downloaded as they cannot be remotely accessed unless there is some web connection to the unit
