Good reply to those who don't understand. I do!

I have used Bushnell's game or trail cams with great results for observing game. Some are camouflage colored. Lockable housings are readily available. Strap it to a nearby tree where it has a 180 view of your house. They are battery powered.with Infra red for night. Some have wifi for remote viewing live. They take an SD car that save photos. Google game cameras.

Thanks for that information. I'll look them up.

I have Ring camera's, but pretty sure they need the owner's network for communication.

That could be a problem. But I thank you for the info.

Simply Safe has a very reasonable alarm package with cameras and they have the ability to talk to the criminals as well as notify the police which respond very quickly when they know someone is in the home. The system is extremely easy to install and is completely wireless. Worth a look

You did read they have no electricity there and of course no internet. Can you tell us how the system you suggested will be able to inform the owner and allow them to talk to the intruder, when they are not connected to the internet and have no electricity?

I'd be interested in such a system and did not know that even existed, that works without internet and no electricity and still allows the user to be informed of intruders and lets them speak to them.

I have a Tactacam Reveal Cellular trail cam that will alert my cell phone whenever it is triggered, showing me what it is seeing. Haven't set it up yet, as it has to be tethered to a provider, but, in theory, you will see the vandals in real time, be recording them, and you can call 911. Police response time then becomes the factor. There are probably similar units out there, I got mine at Dick's.

How does it send a signal to the user as you stated, if there is no internet system there, plus she said she can barely get a cell service for her phone, when she is there?

So if the renters are the ones that cause the vandalism and now obviously you have no renters so who vandalizes your property? I still don't understand how can you have a property that you don't at least take care of it once a month of hire someone to take care of it. You don't need the mow the lawn?

That's what I'm trying to find out.

You can use some form of solar power and wireless internet but I don't think it would be cheap. Verizon is advertising wireless internet for the home for $25 a month. With some solar panel and battery you should have enough power to run the camera and the internet router.

I honestly hadn't thought about internet. That adds another layer of expense. Ouch!

Take a look at the BLINK security camera system. We have a 3 pack which cost about $225. The Blink camera is tiny and has a port to stick in a MicroSD card. The camera can record to that onboard card and you can choose how long you want it to record, once the camera has been tripped to record, by the motion sensor.

Each camera has rechargeable battery which can last up to 2 years, depending on how often they are tripped to record. I have had mine now for almost 2 years and still not changed the batteries, but I only have it on from 11PM to 7PM but that is still excellent in my mind. Many nights, nothing has been recoded, due to no motion. Other times there are over 30 pieces of video and I have it set to record a max of 5 mins then it resets itself.

There is an all-weather housing available for the camera at around $8 each on ebay and we have the black ones. This means you can mount it into a tree or trees, if you wish. Not many vandals have the time to search every tree. They have good image quality in colour for daylight and have infrared for nighttime recording.

You have a choice of having a blue light come on, at the front of the camera when it is recording, or you can turn that off, so nothing shows while it is recording. The camera is very small and not easy to spot. If you mount one on the house, vandals make think that is all you have and then not worry about the ones mounted in trees around the property.

You can have it send a wireless signal to a recording device if you have internet and that sends a live view to your phone. You can hear what is being said by the vandals and if you want, you can speak to them. Of course, these functions require and internet connection, which you say you don't have. However, the feature is there if and when you might require that.

The cameras can also be set to not record when it is an animal, it senses the size and shape which is user settable. You can also have it set to recognize a car licence plate to trigger or not trigger to record. They are the most feature rich with no electricity needed, system and affordable, that I am aware of. You will still need someone to go out and retrieve the MicroSD card if you want to see what it recorded though.

If you are the last in line of your family homestead and it is being vandalized and is thousands of miles away from you and you have no services connected to it and no one to look after the house, then I don't quite understand what you are keeping it for. It's like buying lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes and sticking them in your fridge, never intending to eat them and just open the door every few months to see how far they have rotted.

Since you don't seem to ever be staying at the property in the future, the house will just begin to fall apart with time and weather exposure, even if no vandal every touched it again. At some point there will just be a load of rubble on the ground, so what benefit would that be to you? It may be a tough decision but selling it off will likely be the most sensible option, while it still has value, if you can find anyone who wants to buy it.

Take a look at the BLINK system and good luck with your search.

But the least expensive way to monitor 1000 miles away is to use the internet.
