Better than that we were on a video shoot in the 1970's up in the mountains east of Vancouver Canada. The director who will remain nameless was courting his soon to be wife at the time.
It took 4 of us to haul all the equipment up this 3 hour hike.
The bride and groom helicoptered in followed by the models for clothiers and fashion mags.
We get all set up. He turns to his betrothed and asks which bag that she brought up has the expensive multi rolls of film?
He married her despite her error or shall we call it omission?
His work appears in Vogue and his films have been shown at 5 international film festivals.

That feeling! I plan for an outing, plan out which cameras and lenses i am going to use. I get to the place that i planned for, see a scene, turn on the camera, and it says,
"No Card"

That's why I keep a couple of inexpensive cards in my truck.

I keep an assortment of small items in a couple of old prescription pill bottles (with the labels peeled off, these have replaced film containers of yore for this task). In them also are a USB-C to Micro-USB adapter; AA and AAA batteries; safety pins, clevis pin, paper clips; nail clippers, pin-on button, needle & thread; and on and on. I've even a card reader and an OTG cable so I can connect it to my smart phone. Basically anything I've ever been caught without during the dozens upon dozens of times I've been out camping or otherwise away from home. I've always got my truck with me, so now I've always got the little things I might need, too.

Under and behind the back seat are another story.

no....never.
never ever.

WHY would you remove the card in the first place, other than for downloading files....and then you would immediately REPLACE it in the camera (or insert another card).

do you go on a car trip and not check the gas in the tank?

I don't remove it then, either. I just transfer all after each shooting session. If full, I reformat in camera.

On second thought, I put in a backup, then do as above returning it to camera after session.

Now I have a camera with dual cards but haven't filled one yet.

What is worse, is realizing that your camera settings got inadvertantly changed, and you spent the last two hours taking pictures without any card at all.

Been there before, so I turn my camera on to check the battery and the card before placing it in the bag.

I have never done that!!!but I have started to take a shot without a card in the camera, but then I never travel ( this means with my cameras) without my bag with extra batteries and cards

Yes like someone else said. I never remove the card from my camera. I have a new 128gb card in the camera and a spare 64 in my bag. Always download the card but leave the pics on there until I have everything backed up on several ext drives.
