My G9 has lived a very hard life - and it is starting to show in it's performance. I was considering buying another one - BUT - was wondering if Panasonic plans on releasing a new version of the G9 ?? If so, I might wait. Anyone heard any rumors??

Have you seen the Lumix GH6 and the OMDS Olympus OM-1?

I have heard/read/seen nothing, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a G10 or G9 II in the works.

The GH6 will not work for my needs, but I just looked into the OM-1 and that looks AWESOME! Thanks for the tip, I might try it out

43RUMORS indicates there will be an announcement from Panasonic (and OMDS) come about September. They just haven't found out whether it is full frame or 4/3rds. The suspicion is that it is 4/3rds. The OMDS announcement will be about the OM-5 that will replace the E-M5 mkIII.

The Olympus/OMDS OM-1 is a fantastic camera body. But so is the GH6. The GH6 is 25mp is time. And although the OM-1 is only 20mp is time, the stacked sensor has ISO like that of most full frame cameras along with its AI like the E-M1X. And the future of 4/3rds will include 33mp and 43mp sensors. Don't necessarily dismiss the GH6. Be sure that the GH6's 25mp sensor and featues will not meet your needs for sure before considering the 20mp OM-1. Of course, either one is likely to put a very big smile on your face.

One more item: there seems to be a high demand for 4/3rds right now. The OM-1 camera bodies are on back order and OMDS is no longer taking 150-400 f4.5 Pro IS orders until they build the orders that they already have. To the best of my knowledge, Panasonic is in a "similar boat" but with less delays for the back orders.

Curious… What’s missing from the GH6 that you need?

I use both the G9 and EM1mkII. As an upgrade I find the OM-1 too pricey, but the EM1mkIII is verrrrry tempting.

The most significant innovation in the EM1mkIII for me is the handheld hi rez mode. But I prefer the features and controls of Lumixes over Olympae (having a few of each on hand). So what I really want is handheld hi rez on a G9mkII/G10.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regularly reading UHH Im aware that my uses of various features and controls is clearly not related to how most hogsters operate, so I cannot expect most model upgrades or bug fixes to address my odd needs (assuming that "most hogsters" represents the mass market). But some upgrades do benefit me regardless :-)
Thaz a funny question. But if its not obvious to you why stills shooters shun the GH series then no one can ever explain it for you. Just accept it.
I can say that "whats missing" is not usually my explanation for why I will dismiss a camera (for my own use).
A listing of features and specs cannot really predict whether a camera will or wont be a "Goldilocks" model for any particular user.
FWIW, I notice that Lumix now offers handheld hi rez mode, but only in the GH6. But that bodes well for the next iteration of the G9 :-)
Yes it does! It's not a 100MP medium format Fujifilm, but it's a solid feature for still life and landscape work, and for copying medium format film.
Those uses are just the boilerplate marketing examples, the stuff that hogsters will argue endlessly about.
To me its a high-iso noise reduction mode. You wont see that discussed around here cuz its not mentioned anywhere in the marketing pages.
But low light noise reduction is why handheld is important to me. Earlier versions are intended for tripod use, perfectly normal anyway for still life, landscape, etc even at low iso.
Yep! It sort of hides the noise with resolution, assuming you’re not making prints with four times the surface area.
Dont know what you mean there.
Noise is reduced by composite imaging, its not "hidden by resolution". Youve got eight frames mashed into one. it works regardless of resolution.
IIRC the Sony term for it is "Handheld Twilight Mode". No claim is made about resolution, only noise reduction.
OM offers handheld hi rez with an option to reduce from 80MP to 25MP "to reduce file size". Whatz the real use for that if not for noise reduction ? 25MP isnt hi rez yet its an option in their hi rez mode.
At first glance it is marketed as a video camera, I don't do any video, .... just sports and family stuff. The OM-1 looked better for sports with the super fun 120 fps, and it is much lighter, (I don't want a heavy 4/3 seems ridiculous. But it is on back order anyway so it will not help the GAS attack I'm having. I have 7 different 4/3's lenses and my G9 just died - so would like to have a fun, new, 4/3's .
Interesting ... the EM1miii looks very cool, I will check it out. Plus it is a year old, I might be able to find a used one
