Yes, shipping is getting expensive. It's more than that. An employee has to pick the item then it gets wrapped/ boxed in some cases put in a mailer. Now it is placed on a shipping/dock. A driver picks it up goes to the distribution center gets sorted placed in a container for another distribution center unloaded placed on a delivery vehicle then a driver rides around from place to place gas costs how much? Then it is delivered. A lot of hands in the mix.

If you noticed the first suppliers shipping was almost twice as much as the second, and all of the handling should take not more than 5 mins if it does something is wrong in their shipping process, this is being shipped USPS, drop it in the mailer stick the label on it and drop it in the out going mail, I'm not questioning the final cost!! even though $11.74 seems high I can live with it.

hell that would be an 160 mile r/t and we are getting close to $4.00 per gallon for gas

Gas prices are bad but... We have a $16.00 bridge toll, and $3.99 was the cheapest gas I saw yesterday. Stores in NJ have lower prices, more varied stock so we go, we do get a discount for EZ Pass on the bridge, BTW there is no cash toll, they mail you a bill!

Unfortunately, good hardware stores and real lumberyards, the kind I grew up around, are dead and gone, replaced by the inferior likes of Menards, Lowes, and Home Depot.

Yesterday I began working on a sliding rail for close-up/ macro work, this is for coarse adjustments, I went to get a #29 drill bit and found it missing, where it is? hell I don't know.
So the search began: No one within 25 miles of me have individual bits, they have sets @ $20 + tax and a 52 mile round trip, Next comes the internet One supplier has them @ $3 each plus $22 shipping , what a deal-no deal!!
Finally found them for $1.03 ( ten or more ) plus shipping $11.45 (min. chg.), I ordered a dozen keeping the cost to $1.97 ea.
I now have a lifetime supply! unless I misplace them
They should arrive before my next birthday

You will locate the one you were searching for the day the new ones arrive. If you have several drills, check to see if you left the bit in one of them.

I ordered a DK-19 eyecup for my Nikon D500. Cost $9.50 + shipping $7.50 delivery per UPS. They could have mailed it out for less than $1.00. It will probably be packaged in a box large enough for a camera.😆

You should check ebay for small parts. You still may need to order a few more than you absolutely need.

A while ago I needed a cable for my computer. Office Depot had one for like $4. I went there, they were out of stock and had to order it. I needed it now, so I drove to the other side of the mall to Best Buy. They had the exact same cable for like 4-5x as much. I made a fuss but ended up paying big time. Never trust big box stores, including Amazon. They always have good deals, but make up for it when your not looking...

did you ask if they could price match?

Yes, the package was in a Best Buy package, but it was the exact same cable. I raised a big fuss but to no avail.

Once before Sams Club had a 55" Samsung TV on sale at a great price. Best buy had the same TV for a lot more. I went for the price match just to save me a trip to Sams Club. No good. The manager said the model number was different. Yes, one number different because it was a Best Buy number for the same exact TV. Lots of products sold at big box stores like Lows, Home Depot, Best Buy and so on have identical products with different numbers just for those stores.
