I have first hand knowledge of a San Disk SD card going bad. Don’t know what “killed” the SD card. The card was sent to San Disk. They said the “controller” was bad. I understand the controller actually writes the data to the memory card. It is between the FAT and the physical memory. They apologized and replaced the SD card.
I would try to recover the data using a recovery program: RescuePro , Active File Recovery(LSoft Technologies Inc) or others.
RescuePro reported no errors.
