Based on what I was paying, renewing for 2 add'l years at the old rate vs the new rate would save me 99 cents a month, or a total savings of $23.76 over two years.

Let's see... If I skip my daily Starbucks Tall Pike Place coffee once every 60 days or so, that will can cover the added cost!

Frankly, I'm not too worried about paying the new rate of a little under $5 a month for Flickr. I figure it's worth it to help maintain the service in the future.

Just don't ask me about software subscriptions... That's another matter entirely!

I don't know if they'll fold Flickr into Smugmug. I hope not.

I've never used Smugmug. Why would you be opposed to Flickr and Smugmug merging?

I'm very happy with my SmugMug account. Best of luck.

FWIW - I thought about it, looked at 500 px and Smugmug, and decided to stick with Flicker for now - extended my subscription for pro till July 2022, with a 2 month discount for Adobe CC - Even better then just a little off the Flicker subscription price.

Thanks for comments, replies and thoughts!

I'm not too concerned about flickr subscription as long as it's something that's cheaper than my useless impulse purchases.

A few years ago I looked into 500px and a couple other forums and was not impressed with any of them compared to what flickr provides. Flickr has changed over the years and some features have disappeared but the basic structure seems pretty good to me as an aging curmudgeon. I'll hold on for a bit longer.

Same here... I'm on the fence about extending my Pro subscription with the over 100% price increase since I joined. I have been with Flickr since 2005.

I'm another one who just re-upped.

I wonder what else has increased in price 100% since 2005? I'm told my investments in the stock market should double every 8 to 10 years or so, so doubling the cost of flickr over fifteen years doesn't look so bad. Indeed, the S&P 500 more than doubled over that span of time. I can recall when a loaf of break cost $0.25, and a Chevy Impala cost $3,00.00, but that was a very long time ago. Costs go up pretty much everywhere.

I just don't like extending a term until 10/21 as there is a chance that they may go belly up if the financial problems continue. If they do, I'm sure many will be s..t out of luck with no way to recoup the money. I did re-up though. As for your price comparisons, you aren't taking inflation into account and using really old price comparisons at that.......

Likewise. You can't find lower priced 'paid' photo storage!

As for one's like SmugMug, etc.; totally different culture than Flickr.

What is the new vs old charge?

It's $10 a year more -$60 instead of $50. The old pro account was $25 and it was NOT supposed to rise. That was until Smugmug bought it.

I've already instructed Zenfolio to not renew my account, and on April 18, my renewal date, I will move my domain names to Smugmug. I will also migrate all of my images currently in Flickr to Smugmug as well. I refuse to have simultaneous Flickr and Smugmug accounts. Smugmug is fine for file sharing as well as hosting a domain.

I have been on Flickr since 2007. I have 20,000 images on Flickr. It is the best platform for serious photographers, and I would encourage all of you support Flickr.

Already a Pro member. The price is right; if anything, too low!

With respect, Scott, I was trying to exhibit inflation by referencing the admittedly ancient prices for bread and Impalas. For something more contemporary, I noted the S&P 500. My point, really, is that inflation is a real thing, and the official overall rate has been about 31.58% between 2005 & 2020, but closer to 50% for certain categories, and up to 20% higher on the left coast (https://www.officialdata.org/us/inflation/2005?amount=100). Add that inflation, I'd guess up to 70% (50 + 20), to the costs of buying a floundering company like flickr, and it's not hard to see how the cost could have doubled over those 15 years. Finally, next to the new gear I've purchased over that period, for me at least it's chicken feed, of which I for one don't need very much, having no chickens.
