It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine" (Time I had some time alone) REM

I shoot for me, don't always get it right, many times I do.
Enjoy it as much now as I did 50 yrs. back, love the darkroom in a box,
nature walk, photoshop, takin pics when I want, still
"It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine"

It will get better.......

I couldn't agree more. Landscape photography can have some adjustment, but not much. If you want toad a new sky, then it becomes Creative Art.

Start where you are. Buy equipment. Admire other's equipment. Buy more equipment. Sell equipment. Find a new hobby.

There's only one way to enjoy photography, do what you like! The heck with what anyone else is doing. If you want to get into the over saturated, over processed, one ups manship world of millions of images hitting the web everyday, you'll never feel good about yourself.

Anyone caught in a quandary of why we enjoy photography and how skill matters should search for “Thomas Heaton” on YouTube.

Have fun, enjoy life, forget what's unimportant and take another photo.

Photography is a passion and it is fun. It's the hope that your next photo will be the one that fulfills your mind's image of a great picture. I am almost always disappointed that my actual pictures don't match what I thought it would be when I shot it. But every once in a while it does. And that's enough for me to continue to try. In camera perfection or with Photoshop assist, the greatness of your picture is for you to decide.

Ever since I was a kid, photography has been nothing but fun. It has been a total financial drain, with no money coming in. I could go through a bottle of Scotch every week, buy a big boat, or collect expensive art. Photography is more fun.

All the more reason to do the best with what you got while you still got time

But it is more fun with Scotch!

I was thinking the same. Hell, most of the people here are a whole lot better at this than I am. For me, it is fun if it's not then I leave the camera and gear home. I do this for me. Every so often I'll post something here, but I know it isn't going to be as good or better than most that post here, but if I like it I'll post it

Some introspection is worthwhile, too much can be confusing.

What's it all for ?
My ego tells me yes your worth it . But then I see some Image in a glossy mag that is not just perfect, but of the eye-stinging blown mind type.
Right to the bin with this lot . Im never going to be any good with it anyway.
Whats a photo,image,picture,shapshot,portrait,print,shot anyway.
The dark side insidiously has fallen among us no one was left untouched.

DIGITAL small word but oh so vast a concept .. Why when people like Bert Monroy, can conjure up from the ethereal cosmos Times square. Without pressing a button .
Who am I to think I can portray some vision of a sunset .
Photoshop will take over the world
We are all doomed I tell ee.
That should put the feline in with the feathered friends.

While sitting bored looking at all my photo gear I... (show quote)

Ahhhhh, yes...the dilemma indeed. Like many, I suppose, I have far too many lenses and bodies which sometimes makes me feel foolish as I use my fav body & lens combo over and over whilst others get a bit dusty. Then, out of the blue comes an opportunity to really utilize the “extraneous” gear and all is well once again.

For me, photography has presented a wonderful world of fine people (including you Hoggers), a vehicle to express my creativity (not sure if this is a plus), and vivid memory-maker. When asked to do a shoot for friends, etc. I love the rush of “rising” to the occasion and sweet pleasure of happiness the final product brings to their faces. Enjoy the gear and the opportunities for our days are numbered.

Cheers!

Whoa, bad night bleak morning. Photoshop has made and will continue to make changes in photography--specially commercial photography. But that's not the only type of photography out there. I take pictures to document things I'm interested in and I write stories and share the pictures with friends and keep them to help me remember. I do not use photoshop although I do shoot raw and tweek in Lightroom to bring the best (for me) out in the pictures. My point is that this is one type of photography that is not going to be undone by photoshop. There are lots more. It all depends on what you want to shoot. If you want to be a commercial photographer then get on the Photoshop band wagon and learn what the discipline requires. Otherwise don't fret about it. But do take a shower, have a couple of cups of coffee and a good breakfast by all means...

Lots and lots of great input, thank you.

Did a photography outing to the Grand Canyon with about 10 other photographers. We all rode on the same bus went to the same view points at the same time of day. When it came to picture day I was totally amazed at what was shown. Some images were close but virtually all were different, just like you'd not been there. That is the beauty and wonder of photography, everyone see's differently.

Here are some things that I think about when out shooting:
Do I want snapshots or photographs
A great view is not necessarily a great photo
Light is everything
Composition is everything else
Cameras are tools, not Holy Grail's
