Doesn’t Z7 have IBIS??

It has been written that the higher the pixel density the more prone a camera is to 'shake' issues. The Z7 has more than twice the pixels of the D5.

I have not confirmed this, but it seems logical ... maybe.

The Angry Photographer on YouTube announced last night that in four days Nikon is announcing a new camera that he thinks may be a game changer. Said he heard this from a very reliable source, and although the Angry Photographer is pretty quirky he’s usually spot on.

He said it could be a hybrid DSLR/Mirrorless Camera? I’m not clear on why someone would want that, but he seemed pretty excited about the possibility. He said worse case it would be a 30+ MP camera and have “endless” buffering.

Another toy for you Nikon shooters!

You might want to use a different source other than him. Just do a little digging....

A little digging seems to show he is correct about the announcement coming on the fourth. If he's wrong on that so are a lot of other people.

My grandson just received his Z7 the other day—a refurb from B&H. Although he loves what the camera does, he is having focusing issues. Not so much that it is slow to focus, but his images all turn out soft, as if the images are just out of focus, not blurred, just soft. He’s using the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRIII. I asked him if he tried manually focusing, and he said it didn’t seem to make any difference. He contacted Nikon, and he will likely be sending it to Nikon for repairs/adjustments, etc. He did do the micro adjust to tune the camera to the lens and he said it made a slight improvement. Unfortunately, I had no suggestions for him, other than there is the possibility that there might something wrong with the FTZ adapter. Fortunately he still has his D810, so it won’t cost him any time or shoots.

Yes. He only shoots in RAW. He’s very frustrated and disappointed.

Did he turn of the VR and just go with the IBIS

I don’t know, he didn’t say. Seems to me that if the two don’t work in concert with each other, there is something wrong with Nikon’s system for the Z7. In theory, at least, if a lens doesn’t have VR, then the IBIS works, but they should work together I would think. I can ask him.

I'm sure I read somewhere it should be turned off.
It won't cost him anything but a little time to try a few shots with and with out and compare.
The lens is a great one but it is designed for a different set of conditions, the two systems could be fighting each other

I just got a text message from him, and he’s still working on it.

Until Nikon - and Canon - widen the choices, I'll avoid the rush to mirrorless. Interesting approach, Nikon appears to have decent body and no lenses, Canon has lenses but weak body choices. I'll not buy Sony until the camera business is more than a corporate rounding error - anyone want a good deal on some Sony PC's that they abandoned? If forced to mirrorless today - I'd buy Fuji.

Nikon has a Trade Up to Z promotion that is tempting me to trade in my D810. It seems that some initial AF concerns with the Z7 were resolved with a firmware update. Wasn’t sure if anyone has experience to share after switching from a D800, 810, or 850 to a Z6 or Z7. Thanks.

I have not touched my DSLR in quite a while. From even before I bought my Z. I have been shooting with my Olympus OM-D and I definitely prefer the mirrorless process over the DSLR process. I carried both for a while I found I was not using the DSLR.

But I cannot answer for you. It depends on your shooting style and subjects. Here is my recommendation. Keep both and use both for a while. See what happens, which you like more.

Unless they have upped the price, the Nikon trade in is not a fabulous deal. You can get a similar deal from Adorama or KEH, etc, other sellers of used cameras, they tend to pay about 70% of the going used price.

However now may be the time for selling a DSLR. DSLR prices are in freewill so I doubt the used prices are going to go up from where they are now.

I'll never have the experience, or need to concern myself with such. I've no intention of moving from my *SLR series of cameras.
