Depends on the situation.
I have the 1911 in the night stand as it is quickest and is cocked and locked.
I agree a good short, 18", 12 gauge is also very good. Have a double barrel one like that also for home use.
The AR platform also works extremely well though as well due to no recoil and rapid follow up shot.

The 1911 and the 12 guage are both less likely to sause collatoral damage than is the ar. The ar is capable of taking out neighbors in their own houses, assuming the 1911 is in 45. Even in 38 super the penetration is less than the ar.

While most of this article is reasonable, I must disagree about the threat posed by "leftists" being in charge of the government. Right-wing fascists have committed as many murders of political opponents as have left-wing - over one million murdered in Indonesia in the 1960's comes to mind. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. So I argue for all Americans - including leftists - to become armed and trained. And witness the stupidity of Rush Limbaugh saying that "we have to march on Washington and take our country back" - after Barack Obama was elected president by the majority of Americans. The problem in our nation will be that we will be hoodwinked by a leader who makes us think he is the answer to our problems but who instead is looking out for himself and who - if allowed - would establish himself with royal powers and create a fascist government suppressing free speech and the free press. Could that happen? Will our system of checks and balances be enough to prevent this?

Checks and balances have been working; courts have been stopping Trump even as he is packing them with Republicans. Democrats in the Senate have slowed things down. The House has not been holding up it's end, because it is controlled by Republicans. But starting next year, Democrats will control the House and it can start to work.

The final check, of course, is the electorate. It made it's first move in the mid-term elections, with record turn out, to turn the House over to Democrats (as well as several states, although clearly not enough). By 2020, it should be possible to strip Republicans of power throughout the federal government and in many states as well.

The solution is going to lie in revisions to redistricting rules and voter participation.

And perhaps a law that does not let TV personalities run for office.

AR-15 does not shoot full auto.

Get your hands on an M-16, AK47, or for real fun an M2 or M60. Pop in some tracers so you can see what you're doing.

You want to defend the US Constitution first read it and second understand it!

Read section III 3 you have no right to rebel that was what the Civil War was about

The weapon is only good for killing and severely wounding people. That is why it was developed.

This is the kind of crap written by the NRA which is a lobbying group devoted to selling arms to people who are going to shoot themselves, family members, friends and the occasionally concert attendee!

B***s***! I use mine for coyote hunting ALL the time. Your time would be more worthwhile spent understanding why Planned Parenthood was developed. Over 50 million and counting.

Some more AR hunting info to go along with yours for the uninformed fake news watchers that only regurgitate the daily DNC talking points mindlessly.
PS AR stands for Armalite Rifle NOT Assault Rifle. A second term for AR is also American Rifle.

I suppose it makes sense for coyotes, if they are a problem in your area. It is basically a varmint round, isn't it? Are coyotes a problem in your area? Unless you cook and season potatoes, they won't eat them. They do like burritos though. I don't recall you speaking of owning any livestock. You worry me, with your disposition and all, when you put together a post combining firearms and planned parenthood.

No full auto function on an ar-15. Sorry.
