So many time, where ever I was using my Df, some one would ask me if I was using a film camera, because they have hardly seen a camera like that!

Ahhh! So they don't teach folks about sarcasm in Frisco. That's interesting. About video, I'm a still photographer, not a videographer. Both my D800 and D850 have video capability. I have never used them for that. Most likely never will.

Well for those of us who shoot video for work purposes, it's an amazing thing to have as a free add on. I suspect one of the reasons they left it out of the DF, is that the video settings would have to stay the same as the photo settings, which doesn't really work in real world use. Other cameras remember the settings for each and revert to them when the mode is changed. Impossible on the DF without changing the way video works completely.

I learned on a Nikkormat. My first lenses were a 55mm Micro Nikkor auto (which I used yesterday on the Df) and a 43-86 zoom (which was a dog and is long gone). Along the way I think I owned virtually every film body that Nikon made, ending up with an FM2. I never 'graduated' to autofocus. I learned how to focus manually and it still works for me, although there are challenges with the Df. Many of the challenges are due to my 'old eyes' I suspect. I own more than a dozen 'old' MF lenses, and still use them all. No other camera allows me to do that and has the 'dials' I love to use them to control what i am shooting. It is not a camera for everyone, but I love mine! I have ordered an F4 focusing screen (which I hope will assist in focusing). I am also playing with Helicon Remote and a tablet. I doubt that the Df will ever be a mainstream camera, but it has its place.

It's a stunning camera, but I'm a crop frame shooter, and want the bells and whistles of the D500. Plus the price is higher than I'm willing to pay. I do wish more modern cameras were built like it though. I'd be much happier with dials over the lcd in most gear.

Get a Fuji!

Video??

A small video camera is much better than using an SLR for the purpose, much smaller, lighter and the ergonomics are much better for shooting video.

So I've heard. It's just a hobby for me, I don't want to go chasing the latest and greatest all the time. Once every few years will do!

Agreed, but one I don't need a small video camera, two the changeable lens idea has always appealed to me for video. Plus I can carry one device for dual uses. I know the limitations well, so for me video is a nice little bonus rather than a must have.

Wow. The guys are being kind to you. My Df has all the features that my D700 and D800 have and works beautifully. You should rent/borrow one and give it a try. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

The Df has the same guts as the D4 or D4s. Love the low light capabilities offered by my D4 and the Df has the same.
The Df offers all us former film Nikon camera users a chance to relive our former selves through owning the Df because of it's likeness to the Nikon FM and FE film cameras.
I do not own one and do not wish to. My Nikon D500 and D810 are my current wonder Nikons.

I have to admit, I don't walk around looking to see what camera people are shooting with but the Nikon df is a specialty camera...pure nostalgia. If you love the looks of a well restored 1956 Thunderbird...you'll love the looks of a Nikon df.

I don’t walk around looking at other peoples’ cameras either. I also don’t walk around looking at my camera. Sure do like the way the Df feels and handles when I’m shooting, though.

Most of us who use a Df don't do it to be seen using it or because of nostalgia.

We use it because it we prefer to trust our own ability to set exposure rather than have Auto exposure set by the camera. I even prefer manual focus to autofocus because it suites the kind of photography I do.

If I had bought mine new I would have chosen the black over the silver body to be less conspicuous.

And yes, I have seen a couple of others around here.

Doesn't every DSLR allow you to set manual exposure and focus?

Have to agree with you on the video part.... have had my D800 over 5 years now and have never used the video on it at all and have no desire or intention to ever.
