The camera is more than 4 year old but yesterday was the first time I saw someone with one.

The Lordomat is nearly 60 years old, but I’ve never seen anyone with one.

LOL In the last 35 years or so I've only seen one Gowlandflex (mine)

It's pretty much a niche camera, for people who want to pay more for fewer features.

That was my reasoning when I bought mine.

It's a stunning camera, but I'm a crop frame shooter, and want the bells and whistles of the D500. Plus the price is higher than I'm willing to pay. I do wish more modern cameras were built like it though. I'd be much happier with dials over the lcd in most gear.

Wow. The guys are being kind to you. My Df has all the features that my D700 and D800 have and works beautifully. You should rent/borrow one and give it a try. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Two other DF owners have already posted that they bought it because of the features it doesn't have, including video.

Yes, that can be a good thing, not the higher price. But the Df is attractive to some old film Nikon F shooters and looks a lot more like a F body. Yes, it is a niche. Why the ridiculous price? I have no idea, but perhaps low expected sales volume. Someone I know has a Df, probably one of the first available. The camera is really cute, to me anyway, and likely others as people stop and ask her about it as she walks around with it with a vintage Nikkor 50mm AI lens or similar vintage one on it.

Ahhh! So they don't teach folks about sarcasm in Frisco. That's interesting. About video, I'm a still photographer, not a videographer. Both my D800 and D850 have video capability. I have never used them for that. Most likely never will.
