I am wondering if this debate is really a necessary one... Don't we have enough strident opinion exchanges in other public venues. I am weary of vitriolic "non-discussions". In the end, people will simply make a choice and decide what they want to do, and I seriously doubt of the coming exchange here will make a lot of difference...

Dirk, Bob is just exercising his first amendment right to ask a question!!!
You probably don’t know that amendment do you?
It’s kinda like the second one only BEFORE it!!! LoL
I personally may consider switching from a Canon to Nikon over it. But that’s just me, your mileage may vary !!!

Like others, I enjoy a variety of hobbies. I appreciate that firearms are not for everyone however I am an enthusiast who enjoys target shooting and whiling away hours reloading. I enjoy my camera gear as well and I have several Nikon scopes and binoculars that I highly treasure.

I find it sad that corporations bend to the whims of the changing currents of public opinion. If Nikon really wanted to make a statement they would stop production and sales of their firearm and hunting product line....but they won't. Image is one thing...a source of world-wide revenue is another.

I am wondering what effect if any Nikon dropping out of the recent NRA annual convention has on this community. I am wondering how many of you guys are gun buffs and are angry or happy at Nikon's actions. Forty years ago I was a large gun dealer in NY and the very first dealer to sell Nikon rifle scopes. Me thinks, most gun people will no longer buy their very good scopes, but what about camera gear?

I have a concealed carry permit and I enjoy almost all shooting sports, and participate in them at the local gun club. I also use and like Nikon photo gear. Nothing will change for me because of this move by Nikon.

If you don't like Nikon's decision to distance themselves from the NRA, then get a cannon!

Some here seem to equate pro-NRA with pro-2nd amendment. Nothing could be further from the truth. The NRA stopped being an honest defender of the spirit of the 2nd amendment long ago and now seems to care more about their members to the far right than the majority of their members who seem to favor some more rational approaches.

Clearly, you don’t know what you are talking about. There is nothing ambiguous in the wording of the Second Amendment, or the commitment of the NRA in helping to secure that right.

It will have no effect on me, I don't buy current Nikon gear but my comment would be "what a dumba$$ move."

It just illustrates that those who run Corporations have the same poor reasoning skills as individuals who don't.

Yes; sheople are sheeple, and sometimes the smartest ones are even more so.

Yes, you can, apparently.

Cannon shells are classed as destructive devices in the U.S. under the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). They must be registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and, though legal under federal law, are prohibited from being owned by civilians in certain states. Muzzle-loading cannons themselves, however, are – remarkably – not deemed to be firearms in the U.S. and are therefore not regulated by the NFA.

That said, most UHH members would object to dragging them around and would rather go mirrorless!

I've been a Nikon user since 1964. I couldn't care less what their attitude is toward the NRA, nor do they care what mine is. See how well that works?

Are you sure it is still there? At times it seems like it was tossed out.

As for Nikon, I use their cameras. It has nothing to do with whether we agree on non-related matters.

Is that a bad thing? A few wadded panties, some supplies from the powder room, a cannon ball, a ramrod, and a flint could make a quite spectacular image!

As Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit says: Get woke go broke.

I don't understand why a corporation, actor, singer etc. would risk alienating half of their potential audience. Stay out of politics. If you want to get rid of guns then work to change the Constitution. Otherwise STFU.
