Nikonrumors thinks that the mirrorless will ship with an adapter to allow existing lenses to work.

The way I read it, we will be paying dearly for the adapter.

"The only matching information across all my sources is that Nikon is working on a new adapter for their upcoming mirrorless camera

Reportedly Nikon is putting a lot of effort in the development of a new lens adapter for their next mirrorless camera. The new adapter is supposed to be very complex and it will be expensive. Nikon wants to make sure the autofocus is fast and is backward compatible with old Nikkor lenses (AF-D included)."

Respectfully, there's a BIG difference in the two configurations you mention. The 'angle-of-view' changes, the 'optical magnification' does not. Show me an OLY 400/2.8 or one of the Nikon (equivalent) long glass. Answer: "they don't exist". Show me an OLY camera as capable for sports as the Nikon D5 -- again, there isn't one. I plan to jump into the Nikon ML system, but it will NOT replace what I use everyday! Best of luck.

Check B&H Photo or Adorama and compare the Olympus 300 f4 to any FF 600 f4. You will find that that the angle of view is exactly the same. There is no difference except in depth of focus. That is the only "BIG" difference optically. There are some other differences: the 4/3rds is lighter (3.25lbs [2.8lbs w/o tripod collar] vs 8.64lbs or 6.81lbs), smaller (3.67" X 8.94" vs 6.6" X 17.6" or 5.5" X 15.2"), and less costly ($2500 vs $11,500 or $12,300). Most people I have talked to shoot without the tripod collar because of how stabilized (6.5 stops) it is and saves 0.45lbs in carry around weight.

So the answer to your challenge, "Show me an OLY 400/2.8 or one of the Nikon (equivalent) long glass" is the Panasonic 200 f2.8 because it works on an Olympus for all basic functions. And it is as sharp as any lense out on the market according to second and third party reviews. Yes, comparable lenses to FF and APS-C lenses for 4/3rds do exist.

I respect your opinion as well, but none of this is for me at this time. I'm older and will take a lot of convincing. I'll stick with what I know works until something that I consider better comes along. Don't forget, a very slim DOF is something that I seek and enhances my work. When I shoot a football player, I don't also want the cheerleaders in focus! Best of luck. Shoot with whatever makes you the happiest and I will do the same!

By the way, people who shoot sports do like the Pro capture of the Olympus. It is capable of capturing 36 frames of 20mp RAW just before the shutter release and then continue to shoot at 60fps 20mp RAW after the release. Is the Nikon D5 capable of that? Such speed helps one to capture that decisive moment in sports.

Although, it doesn't seem this better mousetrap appears on the sidelines and photographer pits of real-life events ...

People may like them, which is just fine by me. This pro doesn't like them for they myriad of reasons I've stated in many posts above. I'll match my Nikon D5 with a 400/2.8E FL to any ML combo you can come up with and I'll still prefer what I shoot with now. The ML cameras are wonderful as a group, and most likely the body of the future, although I'll probably have hung up my hat by then. No envy, no animosity, no brand loyalty intended. I'm happy with what I have and when something I believe to be better suited to my work comes along, I'll look into it. If you prefer the Olympus, whose headquarters in the US is a stone's throw from my home, please keep shooting with it. I have spoken to some folks at Olympus but have chosen to stay where I am. Forever? No! For now? Yes! Best of luck. Have fun shooting.

I am not mirrorless yet
..have lots of Nikon DSLR lens and various bodies.
But I did get an inside scoop on mirrorless cameras about to hit market from Panasonic thay will leapfrog past Sony offerings. I can't reveal info but if in the market you may want to wait a bit.

Where I'm from The Inside Scoop is an ice cream store -- pretty darn good one at that!

But at any given distance, it has roughly twice as much depth of field at the same aperture. That can be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on the results you want.
That said, I'm eager to see what Canon and Nikon come up with.

LoL, Burk, is that an attempt at comedy, or is just knowing you can fool beginners, empowering??? LoL
When I have my 200mm f1.8 mounted on my Canon 1Dx, I actually know I’m macho!!! Pros with 500’s move over and make room!!! LoL
Burk, when I “need” WIMPY DoF, I simply just stop down, and presto, I have wimpy DoF!!!
When YOU want the professional look of killer shallow DoF, you need to put your tail between your legs and go HOME!!!
Pros use those BIG HEAVY rigs for a reason MOST will just never understand!!!

Nothing is for sure except that your F mount lens won't work on the new Nikon ML without an adapter. That much is for sure.

That is just a rumor nobody knows for sure.
