My favorite backyard bird is the catbird. It is my favorite because I had never seen on until last year when one showed up at my feeders and only stayed a few days. In early fall this year, the catbird showed up again and has been a regular all winter. He is still here and I am beginning to think he may have moved in. Even though he is a nervous, flighty bird, I look forward to watching him every day. If the feeders are almost empty, he sits nearby and complains.

We live in S.E. Michigan. We get quite a nice variety of birds that includes blue jays, cardinals, nut hatches, juncos, titmouse, doves, 3 different woodpeckers etc., etc., but the black cap chickadee is my favorite.

They are pretty cool. I've never attracted one. Nice going and very nice pic.

Black capped chickadees are my primary visitors. My cardinals feed on spillage and seed I leave out for them, not AT my feeders. Unfortunately they have to be squirrel resistant and cardinals have a tough time reaching the seed.

I'm originally from south Jersey and used to have all of the birds you mentioned, along with quail. I had a single Junco for the first time today.

For those who have never seen one of these brutes. Not my shot but a very nice one. They remind me of pterodactyls.

I really like the colors and antics of the Blue Jays. My second would be the Northern Flickers. We get a nice variety at our feeders.

My take on two subjects. I invite all replies, especially additions of subject. I know how versatile a bunch we are and every region is different. Pics are certainly welcome.

What's the coolest backyard bird in your eyes? I'm going with woodpeckers (especially the piliated), flickers and nutatches.
Second runners up: thrushes and thrashers. There's something stealthy about the way they move.

How about the prettiest? Gotta love a cardinal, red or yellow. Finches come next along with indigo buntings.

So that's me, and it's based on living in an urban area in Lynchburg, Virginia. Hope to get an onslaught of replies because I think the thread has great potenial, redundant or not.

My back yard birds include, Great Blue Heron, Tri-colored Heron, Glossy Ibis, White Ibis, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Little Blue Heron, Limpkin, American Bittern, Least Bittern, Purple Gallinule, Molted Duck, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Pied-billed Grebe, American Coot, and many more. I just cannot decide.

Agree with Linda from Maine, Cedar Waxwings, when flying through the area stripping the trees clean of berries, are my favorite

That is absolutely awesome. Thanks for the wonderful captures.

Thanks! They were selfies, btw. I rigged a camera with a wireless shutter release, used DoF calculator to find the plane of focus, placed myself at that point, and put some crushed peanuts in my hand. They all showed up, sometimes 3 at a time, snatching peanuts from my palm. It was a magnificent moment for me.
