My take on two subjects. I invite all replies, especially additions of subject. I know how versatile a bunch we are and every region is different. Pics are certainly welcome.
What's the coolest backyard bird in your eyes? I'm going with woodpeckers (especially the piliated), flickers and nutatches.
Second runners up: thrushes and thrashers. There's something stealthy about the way they move.
How about the prettiest? Gotta love a cardinal, red or yellow. Finches come next along with indigo buntings.
So that's me, and it's based on living in an urban area in Lynchburg, Virginia. Hope to get an onslaught of replies because I think the thread has great potenial, redundant or not.
Of the regulars at my feeder, I like the Chickadees.
We have had several interesting birds through the yard in the last two weeks of the migration season:
Baltimore Oriole, Hooded Warbler, Yellow Breasted Chat, Red-eyed Vireo and Painted Bunting.

Oh I'd love to see a Painted Bunting at my feeder. You're so lucky!
I have black-capped chickadees and they are brave. They feed while I'm 6' away in my chair.

Brave indeed! And Bold! Nuthatches and Black Capped Chickadees will do this in winter when food is scarce.

I often see a Hawk very near the house, sometimes actually in my yard so he would be the coolest, beyond that I think that the female Cardinal scores very highly and of course the less appreciated Blue Jay.

Good calls. I used to have a sharp-shined hawk eating my doves. I witnessed it once and was in awe. I moved, so hopefully that ended.

They ARE pretty. I got animal control to teach me how to get rid of the hawk, and to equip me. Shot shells with a firecracker built in. It just scares them I'm told but I never had occasion to try. I also happen to like birds of prey in general.

Beautiful animals and great captures! I envy you.
