One of the Florida favorites is the Florida Scrub Jay. We have a section of scrub habitat near us and the Jays are doing well. Many are banded from birth to monitor their movements. Beautiful, flighty but very friendly birds, maybe too friendly, one reason they and their habitat are protected.

I think our California Scrub Jays must have completely different social etiquette. They are bold, aggressive and take over the bird feeder. No other birds will stay at the feeder when scub jay arrives. A prettier, Stellar Blue Jay lives in the area, but will not stay and compete with the scrub jays.

My first post and to a fellow Virginian. Grew up in Lynchburg, graduated from EC Glass in 1966. Moved to Atlanta in 75.
As a boy the Piliated Woodpecker was my favorite. Couldn't mistake it's call and it looked prehistoric to a youngster. Most of the southeastern species visit our property over the seasons. I still like watching and photographing the larger birds. Redtail and Cooper Hawks especially.

Small world! Nice meeting you here. I graduated from Jefferson Forest. When my family moved to Rivermont, my brother went to Glass.

I am always awestruck when I see large birds of prey. I've yet to capture one. Well done.

Lynchburg has changed dramatically since you left. Liberty University owns both the Pittman Plaza and the mall. They are everywhere you look.

It's any honor to have you posting for the first time in a thread of mine. I look forward to more. Thank you.
