By the way.... NEF changes depending on cameras. The CODEC is changed accordingly so Windows does not support much but the cameras that existed when it came out. D500 upgraded the CODEC. D850 upgraded the CODEC. Same as Adobe ACR.
Something few pay attention to what the CODECs do: It reads the thumbnail, NOT the raw data.
CODECs are brand specific.
