Seen this so many times, "Mirrorless are no good for action shots". Would like to offer this defense of mirrorless. Taken with X-T2 and the 50-230 XC lens, crop of jpeg straight from camera.
Don’t have the lens but it works for me....
It's a good lens, but not at the top of the line. XC mount was the mount prior to the XF mount and the XC mounts were entry level.
But that's not a bad thing.... as it attests to the super quality and performance of the Fujinon lenses. I use the XC 16-50 zoom and the XC 50-230 lenses. They are great under rated lenses for Fuji and a real dollar savings. Plenty of quality for the money, not to mention a great focal length coverage. Since Fuji is APSc, they cover an unbroken 35 eq range from 24mm to 350mm for the two of them, and small and light with deceent build quality.

LoL, Cat, the other day I had my wife stand there and flap her arms...., that shot came out great too!!!
Hovering is not exactly action!
Come on Girl, get with the program!!!
But they’re nice shots nonetheless!

You obviously have not lately watched hummingbirds in flight. They are lightning fast = just a bit slower than a bullet. One of these shots was a hummer in level flight - take another look. Lens wide open at 230mm at 1/1000. Taken in burst mode ~ 5 frames/sec.

Gotta love that Fujifilm JPEG engine. These are great!

Yes. Since with that EVF you know exactly what your shot will look like, and the jpegs are sooo good, there is very little reason to shoot raw. I have an old computer with not enough memory to do anything useful with raw, so until I upgrade, I am very thankful for the Fuji jpeg engine! The more I use this camera, the more I appreciate it!

Yes the "entry level" of Fuji lenses is equivalent to "Pro" level for some other manufacturers. The Fuji camera is perhaps the best "all rounder" system out there. There are better machines for specific purposes, but in my estimation, nothing beats the Fuji for the overall "do everything" photographer's needs. All the optics are quality. The bodies are all metal and quality. and the performance is logical and fun to use. Love 'em!
Yep. It definitely looks like mirrorless is great for action. Considering how fast the wings are moving, even in hover mode, those are pretty darned sharp. As far as I'm concerned you've proved beyond the shadow of a doubt. Those are some wonderful capture. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice photos, but I don't think that's the action that makes mirrorless questionable. I have taken photos of hummingbirds with a "mirrorless bridge" camera that also came out great. But that is because of a high shutter speed. However, that camera had a significant delay between the time the button was pressed and when the the shutter opened. I suspect the delay may have been as much as 200-300 milliseconds. Taking photos of hummingbirds was not a problem, but when you were trying to get a photo of a pole vaulter at the highest part of his vault, that was a problem. With my DSLR that is not an issue.
In all fairness, the camera was a Konica-Minolta bridge camera with and electronic view finder. I don't remember when I purchased it but it was probably in 2005 or 2006. Cameras have changed considerably since then. I do know that my DSLR purchased in 2013, does not have that shutter delay. Also, I do not know if the shutter delay is a problem with today's mirrorless cameras.

Great work Cat. Doesn't matter what gear you are using, it still takes skill to capture shots like these. Well done.

Mirrorless are getting better all the time - Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus have all upgraded their AF systems making them even better than DSLRs at this point. Your images are proof. Anyone who says mirrorless are not suitable for active subjects is clearly not up to speed and living in the past. . .
I am getting good results with my Sony bridge camera that offers hybird AF. Nothing as nice as your images. If I wasn't so invested in Nikon DSLRs I'd consider an X-T2.
