Be sure to sell the D810 if you upgrade. Keeping both cameras would really be GAS.
or prudent. I purchased my first adjustable camera in 1969 and my second in 1973. Ever since then, my routine when I purchase a new primary camera has been to get a new bag for the new camera and pack the old one away as backup. Recently I was looking at used K-5 cameras and found one listed on eBay by a professional who regularly 'rotates' his cameras. He had recently purchased a new K-3ii so it replaced his K-3 as primary camera; the K-3 replaced his K-5ii as secondary camera; the K-5ii replaced his K-5 as backup camera; the K-5 was now up for sale.

LOL, at least we lived to tell about it!

Looks like the storm moving in will leave you alone! We're expecting another 6 to 9 after the 20 we got last week.

I have the Nikon 810 and am hung-up on selling the 810 and buying the 850.

Not a pro, just a serious hobbyist taking mostly walk-about scenery, travels, family, and of course, Trooper Dog.

A decent set of Nikon lens to include the 85mm, 70-200mm, 35-70mm 2.8 w/macro (old) shooting in RAW and doing selected pictures in
Occasional an enlarged print for my wall but mostly slide shows with a Blu-ray DVD on a flat screen TV for the best resolution. I love SHARP focused pictures. Using Photoshop's Camera RAW.

?Will the increased number of the 850's 45.7MP pixels produce a less sharp picture even with a hand-held VR lens on the 850? (all of my lens are VR except the 35-70.) Yes, I do understand increasing the shutter speed - but still. . ..
?Concerned that the on-camera flash has been eliminated making flash fill shots not possible without adding my flash attachment or overexposing the background?
If you have gone to the 850 from the 810 I would be interested in your thoughts. Would you do it again and why?

What lenses do you already own? Can you afford the 850 without adding debt? If you have all the lenses you want and you can Easley afford the D850.....

Be prepared to be asked what do you think is missing from your hobby when using the 810, that will be improved with the 850.

I upgraded from a D700 to the D810. When I think that the camera body is the only factor holding me back from capturing professional quality images, I’ll upgrade to a more advanced body. Until then, I am concentrating on composition, exposure and subject. Just my opinion......

I use a 700, Df, and an 800E.
I will upgrade in the future.

After my D810 and lens jumped off the tripod and was sent for repairs, I ordered a D850. The D810 came back before the D850 arrived... it was several weeks before I opened the D850 box and then only played with the focus stacking feature. Now, five months later, I continue using the D810... the D850 still has the clear film on the display and has never left the house. If I used the D850, I'd probably discover several things about it that make life easier for me but, most likely, won't actually "improve" my images.

Little complex - am 82 and have discovered that I need something to look forward to - not having something is sitting down and hoping the chair rocks.

That said, the 850 has new and improved technology - doesn't mean that I, the shooter, will capture better images but it odes mean that I have something to look forward to that is, learning the new machine.

Also have the 500 since it came out - broken leg and back issues got in the way of doing much learning of it over the past 2 years so now I have both to learn. Why both the 850 and 500? 850 for static images, 500 for dynamic.

Perhaps if you need the tilting LCD screen, otherwise it will be of no benefit.
