I made the same decision but I had a Nikon smaller sensor camera. Went to Ken Rockwell's site for research and wound up with a Canon 5D Mark ii. I know it is older, but I bought it used and got a great deal. Looks and operates like new. So then I invested in lenses, thinking I can always upgrade the body later on. I suggest always consider used or refurbished, as you can buy a lot more for your budget. Good luck. JimR
