I’ve been looking at Ebay. I have a 100-400 lens and a wide angle lens. Would love to the the 24-70 but can’t afford that.

Unless you NEED 10 FPS, I recommend the 80D. It has a later sensor, articulated touch screen, is lighter weight, has more dynamic range, better low light sensitivity, Wi-Fi, and Dual Pixel Auto Focus for dramatically better Live View and video focusing.

By the way, the 80D is less expensive.

Totally agree.

The 7D MkII is one of the best sports and wildlife cameras made. The pro weather sealing is huge for the cameras life outdoors. I primarily shoot birds and the 10 FPS is needed for wing position for birds in flight. The flexibility for autofocus system is also a must for birds because you will only get one chance for the shot. I have 5D MK IV but still use the 7D MK II for birds and sports.

I have both the 7D II and the 80D and I use my 80D far more often than the 7D II. If the 10 fps is the main reason for you to get the 7D II, forget about it. You will do just fine with 7 fps. The 7D II is a nice camera but it's getting a bit long on the tooth. For the money, seriously consider a factory refurbished 80D. Good as new, same warranty as new, quite a bit less expensive.
I've bought 2 factory refurbs and 1 brand new 80D and there was absolutely no difference between them.
You could also wait for the 7D III to come out.

I bought a refurb 80D from Canon for several hundred in savings. Plus they through in a kit lens, 18-55mm. Very happy with it. Looks like new.

The 7DII is mostly a niche camera (BIF) - the 80D has much greater all-around versatility. With the 7DII you will need another body to maximize versatility - assuming you are a versatile photographer ....The better sensor of the 80D is also of considerable versatile value IMO.

So, the 80 winds up being a better one one body only system.

I currently shoot with a canon T3i. And I’m looking to upgrade. I mainly shoot wildlife, birds, ducks and landscapes.
I like that the 80 d has an 24.2 sensor while the Canon 7d Mikita has a 20 amp. But the 7d shoots 10 FPS and the 80 d shots 7 FPS. They’re both CMOS.
I Could get a new 80d.

Opinions welcome

Debbie

I used to own a 7D mark II and a 70D. All I can tell you is that as a wildlife photographer, I believe the 7D mark II is a better choice. I imagine the 80D is very good but I still feel that it will be second best. In my hands, though, my Nikon D500 is even better than a 7D mark II.

I second the 80D refurb. Purchased one direct from Canon over a year ago. Couldn’t tell it from a new one.

You are correct that the 80D is cheaper, although I see different prices than you noted. Here's what I'm seeing on Amazon right now:

7D Mark II body: $1,039 to $1070

80D Body: $859-$1,099.

I think that would include used or refurb prices on the low end.

I bought the 7D MK II for shooting my grandsons sporting events when it first came out and did the job superbly. About 3 months ago I bought the 80D thinking I would sell my 7D MK II, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I use both at different times, for different things, and often I take both with different lenses thus eliminating a change in the field. The 80D is an awesome camera, and if I could only have one, it would be the 80D.

I have both, but currently favor the 7D M II, it just feels better in hand. Also, do like the 10frame burst, and being able to use 2 cards at once. Do miss the articulated screen which the 80D has and the 7D does not. Either one should work well for you. Also had the T3, don't miss it!

I have the 7 D II and like it a lot. I use it with my longest lens to photograph wildlife in Yellowstone. Highly recommended.

I was going for the 80d but the 7d mark I is still looking better. I don’t know. I’ll have to think about this

I believe the price for the Canon 7D MII is a grey market price. Can not find it anywhere else under $1499 for body only. The $1099 does match grey market price elsewhere.

They're currently about the same price. I've been very happy with my 7d Mark II, but, as several people have noted, there are trade-offs to be considered.
