I've been taking pictures of our league bowling. Should I use Matrix or Center weighted Metering.
I forgot and left camera on Spot Metering, wasn't to good. D7200. Thanks.

I like Spot because I can be sure of getting the exact area I want in focus. Regardless what mode you use, only one distance will be in focus. If Spot didn't work for you, practice with the others before the actual event.

The question was about Metering (for exposure) not for Focus. That is how it registered with me

Using BB focus, but getting diff.exposures with spot. These guys are moving fast. Hard to meter with spot. Thanks.😃

Me too. I missed any question regarding focus.
For the OP, I would go with the matrix metering for more of an overall reading. But please consider this suggestion. You know spot metering does not work for you so try something else while you are right there taking pictures. Actually see for yourself what works best for you. Please submit some photos and let us know.

With spot metering it does take a little more time to take the picture as you have to decide and get the spot on the area that you want to meter. There are situations where I use some form of averaging simply for less hassle. Many cameras are very good at averaging now.

When you use spot metering when you hit a dark spot or a light spot the exposure changes. Just wanted to know what the Pros use Matrix or Center weighted. But on most of the Pros ignore list.😨😆😅

Hmmm. This would very much be lighting dependent. If you have a bright, fairly evenly lit environment, matrix might be a better choice.

Thanks Jim Bob. That's kinda what I thought.

I use matrix metering nearly 100% of the time, I occasionally use spot merging ... but in much different lighting such as an illuminated subject in an otherwise dark setting, I honestly can't tell you the last time I used counterweighted metering on a camera with matrix available.
The matric=x system in my 30 year old F4s is still awesome, newer ones are even better.
