Golden Retriever - "the one size fits any" dog.
I haven't taken him out with me yet while shooting photos, but my Border collie/Aussie shepherd cross is awesome to photograph in action and he is super smart! I want to take animal shots so I hesitate to bring any dog with me. However he is a fantastic hiking companion!
Stuffed dog. No cleanup and it won't frighten wildlife. Don't be selfish. Dogs should be left at home.

I have had two labs and they are great. Big enough I dont worry about them being snatched by large birds and once your adopted they keep a good eye on you. I think pretty much any dog would go well with an outdoor photographer as long as they are well trained for off leash activities and will obey commands. There is nothing worse than trying to photograph with a dog on a leash. It never turns out well.
Black Lab - had two and both were great

I second the Golden Retriever
The pictures certainly make a good case for the Golden.
Depends on what you want from your new companion. Will he or she be the subject of photographs, or just a furry friend to accompany you on your photographic treks, which ever way you are going you really should look at a shelter or rescue dog. If you really want a challenge, may I suggest a Great Pyrenees, loyal, protective, as my wife often says to smart for our own good, and a good hundred pounds of furry fun. See my Avatar, or go to National Great Pyrenees Rescue.

The true is there is no dog better than an Aussie. Had 2 best behaved of all the breeds we have owned.
Chihuahua, if you're shooting in Mexico.
I use to have a border collie he was great very good at commands sit a stay forever till told to move. But they can scare wildlife by just being with you so if it's wildlife pic's you want go on your own.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Long ears and hair make for good action shots.
Australian Shepherd, smart, protective and very loyal

...Golden Retriever of cause...!
Agreed. Here are a coupla pics
Consider a Chinook, originally bred as sled dogs for Admiral Perry's expeditions. Now bred in the Pacific Northwest and New England. They never wander while hiking and never bark unless provoked. Gentle, quiet, loyal, and loving. I often can take "Schooner" on shoots with me, and he simply stays by my side. Also very smart. He runs out to the curbside every morning and gets our daily newspaper, and my wife has even trained him to play hide 'n seek. He's a riot and a wonderful companion. Typically around 60 lbs.
