I'd like to pose a question to the group, including our esteemed photo editor. As I've search the internet for travel photos used in advertisements, I've noticed that while the colors may be vivid (saturated), the people in the images are not. It seems that when people or animals are used in the main part of the image, they are processed normally, not highly colorful. Is this the perception of others or have I just been overly selective in the images I'm using to base my conclusions on (again).

You are correct, SalvageDiver. Excellent question. People are to be presented with a normal skin tone. Many travel images, but not all, do not feature people at all. Why not? Because PP techniques change skin tones: bald headed men often have red skin, and the list goes on. The simple work around is to create a selection around the nearest people, which ensures those people are protected from the changes you make in the rest of the image. Alternatively, process the image and then make a selection around the people you need to rescue. This means you make your changes to those people alone. Advanced photo editing programs will enable you to use layers and brushes to create the image you want. There are all kinds of ways to do this. Perhaps this would be a good time to start working on selections and bringing people to life. What fun! Thank you, SalvageDiver.

Good job working from that jpg, SoHillGuy. It is an attractive shot with normal tones This means you need to boost those colors more to give the image impact. A photo editor would look for more yellow and green in the leaves on the trees. The leaves on the ground should also have colored leaves among those that have lost their color. Yes, I am talking about freshly fallen leaves, there are plenty there. I looked at the image at 100%, as I do most images, and sharpness is a little off. I suggest you look online for tutorials which show you how to enrich colors with your software. This seems to be a problem for you, it's unfortunate because the rest of your work is so good. It may be necessary to have a second photo editor which will help you with this. (I use two programs and use both often.) GIMP is a favorite of mine and it's excellent at boosting colors. Check out what you think would suit you. If in doubt we'll ask other members for help.
I'm giving you four thumbs for effort.

With editing programs we can be magicians of color changes, and much much more. Another take on the color of the scene.

Racmanaz, the first image is the better of the two. Rich colors, good foliage, it has an illusion of depth. However, you used an adjustment which added a glow like effect. (I am not quite sure what it is.) The sharpness has also been downgraded because of the glow effect. Photo editors often don't like such effects because some magazine printers fail to show it to advantage. It's a shame because online it looks so attractive.
Please post only one image. You must decide which image to post. The problem is minor but important. Four thumbs today.

Used PS CC.

I will post the PSD as a DL on another site upon request to show the method.

Rongnongno, please post the psd. I use a couple of methods for removing color cast on a scene or skin color. I would like to see yours. Mike

I used the raw file to post the edit.

As to get an idea on how I deal with a color cast I will send you another link in pm. Be warned my method is unusual...
