I'd done it before but the drive is an experience and an adventure... Regardless, I found on an old disc, some images I'd taken on that drive, most were shot with a D200 and as .jpg, not raw. Wish I'd shot then in raw.
I like the last 7 images most.

My wife and I were there a couple years ago. I think your last photo is from the hiway to Valdez. My wife says no. We didn't make it all the way to the turn-around before Prudhoe, getting too low on fuel but it was a beautiful trip! On the way back we camped on the Arctic Circle, only once in my life have I seen worse mosquitoes. (And I still think the last photo is from the road to Valdez) Anyway, outstanding photo's. Thanks for the memories.

I like those, too... but, in my memory, the photos just don't convey the enormity of the mountains, sky, colors and silence... the silence especially.... Thanks for looking in Longshadow! Your comments are appreciated!

I'm afraid you're short-changing yourself, current. Alaska has more faces, climates, conditions and surprises than "Outsiders" can imagine. These photos are typical of geography and ecology between Fairbanks and the Brooks Range... it's different from the Brooks to Prudhoe - it's completely different south of Fairbanks... east and west, too. I truly believe you- anyone, really- would have an incredible experience spending two years in the State. The first year will seem like six weeks and the second year you'll know what to look for and what to avoid. I was there 25 years and learned, saw or experienced something new almost every day. Read some Robert Service, John McPhee or John Haines- though you won't appreciate Haines until you've had the experiences he describes...
