ON1 is introducing a subscription plan. You don't have to join it to use the software you bought, but you will get upgrades for "free" ($49 the first year). Too bad.

You're fighting progress way too hard Jerry...... It's a bit like worrying about your privacy and then using on-line forums like UHH, Facebook, Twitter etc. Makes no sense. Face it, you have no privacy. Face it, most software will eventually be subscription based. It actually benefits the software company AND yourowndamself! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Does anyone REALLY think that interacting and posting on sites like this for free will last forever...? They will try and squeeze the last dime out of you eventually. The flip side of this is why should we expect any kind of free lunch ? No debate here, just kind of seeing where things are headed.

Jerry, I'm with you and I'll use my LR6 as long as possible.

Well this sucks! I really like the program, but 1 Raw is as far as I will go. Getting tired of everyone's hand in my pocket. Let me buy what I want when I want. We don't all have deep pocket, some of us are on very limited budgets.

Could be comparing apples to pears!! On1 is including a lot more than just the rental of the software and if you decide to not continue membership you still keep the use of the software in the then current version.
In fact their 'super club member' deal looks very tempting.
I have not taken up their offer but it is different from the Adobe scheme.

Yes, big difference. Some software is good enough for a lifetime. While I have Office 2007, I still use Office 2003 no screwy menu and sufficient for my needs. The same can hold true for photo edit software.

Topaz is improving the free Studio, and the old plugins will be converted or still useful as the old plugins. Topaz upgrades on plugins... free. Christmas they gave 50% off...

Affinity has added improvements and up graded for free... base price $50.

Some people say well you do not own the software it is leased... OK let us worry about that when there is a knock at our door with a search warrent asking for our software because we really do not own it, we were just loaned the disks. New dictionary definition of Adobe ... greed.

Iโ€™d be more concerned about something truly being forced on me: the Republican tax plan. Theyโ€™ve got the Robin Hood scheme backwards: rob from the middle class to give to the rich.

I pay $79/yr, and the software gets a major upgrade every 12 months. So what's the big deal. The subscription may prove cheaper in the long run, just like CC.

It's a bit more than a subscription. On1 Plus is a subscription to training, including one on one help. This has been around for a while. If you subscribe, an added benefit is the next major upgrade for free. Otherwise upgrades have been $79. Just like PS used to be, you can choose whether or not to upgrade and still use the version you have.

This isn't progress. It's simply a way for businesses to get money from us every month. For businesses, there is no such thing as enough profit. Can someone really justify "earning" $25 million a year - and wanting even more?

If you add up all your subscriptions, and your subscriptions five years from now, I bet it will be a big deal, and all you're getting is updates. Subscriptions remove choice from your life. You pay whether you want the updates or not. Before I buy a new version of a program, I look at the so-called improvements and decide if they're worth it. I'm using Quicken from 2014, and there's nothing in the 2018 subscription version that I want.
