I use Flickr all the time but not to post photos but to see what others have. I use it to gauge the quality of photos so I search by brand and type of lens. I understand that these are the best but that is what I am looking for.

I have an account and used it for a bit, but ultimately lost interest. I usually only send my images to family, friends and occasionally post here.
I use it as new user. Can spend hours perusing others photos and like the storage capabilities.
Question- is there any way to store photos other than JPEG? Is so - how and what other format?
Also - how do I get my portrait to show ynder my user home page?

I moved to Flickr when Google screwed up Google Albums. I now prefer it to what Google previously offered.

I would love to go free on Yahoo mail, but I'm not sure how to downgrade my subscription. Any ideas? I've also stopped paying for Flickr. I see no difference in the paid version than the free one.

The BIG difference between free and paid is in space, free is limited to 1 TB, while paid is unlimited, at least the older pro accounts are unlimited, free accounts are subject to ads, paid are ad free.
There are a few other differences as well, but for me it is the storage space provided
Here is a link that shows differences, you can check on Flicker to confirm

I use it a bit, mostly to check on what people can do with old lenses, see if they are sharp or not etc. Flickr is an excellent source of that kind of info. But I am not very interested in posting pictures there. Have a few though. Would never leave a good picture there.

I use it all the time to share albums... Easy, works well, and a simple approach to backing up pictures.
Moreover, I use it a lot. Not every day, but several posts most weeks. I think it's a wonderful opportunity to show my work to, and get feedback from, my distant friends, and to thousands (millions?) of people on flickr that I don't know.
A new wrinkle that Yahoo has imposed is not one I applaud: you can only post an image to 30 groups, unless you have a paid account, a "PRO" account, in which case your new limit is 60 groups. I don't like the limits at any number, and I don't like the "pay to play" aspect of the PRO bonus. It seems to put a premium on posting to larger groups, which might inhibit the growth of newer groups and older, smaller groups, since you generally get a bigger audience in the bigger groups.
Still, it remains a free way to show my stuff around to friends and to strangers, and I intend to keep using it.

I've read that. Trying to take that into account, I typically post to about 10 groups on the first day, and then more after I (fail to) get into Explore.

You should probably post to 4 or less the first day, and add more as the days pass
