If God suddenly decreed you could have one lens, and ONLY one (prime or zoom - doesn't matter) ... which lens would it be?

Yeah, a nice choice, Mark ... I suspect for me ... it would be my EF-S 15-85 IS USM ...
Although, that f2 option of yours, makes a lotta sense ... perhaps, the Tamron SP 60 f2 Macro ....
I have a 15-85 as well and use it often, but since at least 50% of what I shoot is indoors and in low light the 35mm f/2, which is also much sharper then the 15-85, wins out. I also have the terrific Sigma 18-35 mm f/1.8 which is a fantastic lens and is even sharper then the Canon, but its very heavy and lacks the image stabilization of the Canon 35mm. The Sigma would be my second choice and perhaps on some days, my first.

At this point in my life, I would refuse to photograph under that restriction - that is why I went to SLR 38 years ago.
I think you misunderstood the question, RE .... look at it, again:

Mark ... now you're all over the place ....
Check out the question, again:

I'm not all over the place. I told you which lens I would chose and why. The Canon 35mm f/2 IS.

Just an afterthought ... if you don't believe in a higher being - it's no matter ... it's a hypothetical question, anyway ... just curious to see the answers ...
I would take a full frame 14-600 f/2.8 that was 800g and 6 inches long. Thank you, God.
God will probably decree that everyone must buy a Pentax K-1

John ... very clever answer ... but it's not really how the question was phrased ....
What was meant by it - was - which of the lenses you use now - would you not be prepared to part with ....
It's not a thing of - make up your own lens ... although, that does have an interesting aspect to it ....
The question, once again - is - as follows:
If God suddenly decreed you could have one lens, and ONLY one (prime or zoom - doesn't matter) ... which lens would it be?

Yathink, Larry ....?
Well, it does have less noise than the current FF rage .... but, even though it has a fully articulating LCD, it's not Touch, and you can't do selfies with it!
But, Larry - the question has nothing whatsoever to do with dig cams (not, directly, at least) ... it's about the most perfect lens in your collection! Dig?
Take a look at it, again, willya, please, Larry?
The question, once again - is - as follows:
If God suddenly decreed you could have one lens, and ONLY one (prime or zoom - doesn't matter) ... which lens would it be?

You didn't say existing lens. You think you did. But you didn't. And because you invoke God, there shouldn't be a problem. Should there. I mean, what's the point if God can't get you the lens you want? But hey, I'm willing to wait until Feb to start shooting. Although in that case, I do have some suggestions on a body to use with it.

No, you're right, I didn't ...
But you're the first responder to go on that particular tangent .... kudos to you, for doing so, BTW ... it proves the question was not ideal ...
Since you have gone into Fantasy-Land, already, with your answer, tell us about this "perfect" body idea, you have, to match, with it ....
Why don'tcha?
Probably my 24mm f2.8 macro I'd probably go to hell and keep my 28mm f2.8 macro, my 50mm f 1.7 ,f2.5 90mm and f2.8 135mm :) thats on aps-c for full frame i'd want my 35mm lens too :)

In other words, Blackest ... you can't pick just one, canya?
24 f2.8 Macro, huh?
Is that one of those Sigma asphericals?
