I still drool over new equipment...... have a thing about fast lenses.

Now that being said.... I am retired, wife is retired and we do not even worry or think about a credit score.

We do use a credit card for web purchases but only when the card can be paid within 24 hours of the purchase. Cash is king. Debt brings stress, worry and who needs it.

Been free of any cc debt for years and it is a nice way to live.

Downside..... you often have to wait to make a purchase...... found that often times waiting will also prove I really do not need that I thought was important two months ago. Now if it is not broke, the old still performs well skip the purchase and just keep building a slush fund for the day you really do need a replacement for whatever comes up.

I have good credit too. Many years ago I maxed out my credit card, where I couldn't make any more purchases. It took a year to get it to a manageable level, with absolutely no purchases. I learned a valuable lesson. Just because you have a credit card, doesn't mean you can buy everything you want all at once. I want two more lenses, and I will buy one at a time. Sometimes patience is a virtue.

My credit score is very good and i also wanted the new D850.I even pre-order one.I finally decided to cancel because I decided it was want not need.Presently I have the P900,D600 and the D500.I think I got caught up in the hype and the excitement of D850 so I took a step back and decided to relax and wait awhile to see if I will want it in a few months when things settle down.I love the D500 it right now fits my needs.I hope you can get your wish.Mean while enjoy what you have.

Yet, I living on a low fix income. I have no debt. I believe in having little money and not own anyone to having a lot of money and own everyone. So I don't give a dam about credit rating. Yes, I see cameras I would like to own, but cost of them is too rich for my blood. So I make do with what I have or do over or do with out.

My solution to this recurring problem is to go to my favourite store and make a layaway then every loose penny is put down and almost presto the new toy is mine

You might want to take some lessons in spelling and grammar.

My credit score is over 800. This pretty much allows me to finance any camera I want. But, I find my Olympus E3 allows me to do anything I can master. No D850 or any other camera for me.

I worked 30 years and do you know what I have that I really call personal items? My stereo and my camera. I will admit we just replaced our tv after 11 years with a nice new one. But, really, 30 years and I've got a stereo and a camera. Other than that it's house, cars, and clothes, and the clothes are not new. I will admit, though, that the Lexus was the best buy I ever made. It's 10 years old, paid for, and running like new. I got tired of cars that broke down.

What aqiliot wrote is so true. I found the following cameras at local auctions and yards sales: Leica IIIb with three lenses. Canon AE-1 & AE-1 Program and tens lenses to fit the two Canon's cameras. Nikon Model f with Photmic FLN Light meter with 50mm Nikon's lens. Other cameras I had that I sold off over time. I did not pay more than $75.00 for each of the four camera. Lenses for the two Canons and two lenses for the Nikon not more than $25.00 each. As for E-Bay, I have four cameras, all German's made in the 1950s pay not more than $50.00 each. Over time I just wait until I see a camera I can pay for. People selling cameras at yard sales and on E-Bay, a lot of the time do not known what the camera is when selling it. To them it a camera only. I just writing about cameras, there is a lot of other things I have buy at auction and yard sales at 20% at most the cost to buy it at store or on line. Remember NO TAX for yard sale items.

Credit Karma. It is free and they also give you helpful tips to improve your score. Fixed income is tough to change your debt to income ratio (which is a big factor in determining your creditworthiness, just don't let that determine your 'worth'.) I finally have a decent credit score, however, if I want to keep it, actually using my credit card (yes, 1) is out of the question.

Don't ever click on credit karma unless you want your inbox loaded with all kids of garbage email. They sell your info to all kinds of places that will junk up your computer with all kinds of trash.

NEVER buy on Credit!!
Save until you have the Cash on hand,
THEN Buy (IF you are convinced the expenditure is WORTH IT !)
-
AND - - SELL your OLD equipment to offset the cost !
