Hi Lake Gal,
I am convinced Christmas Cactus' live for ever. The one we now have was in my wife's family for many years, and we finally got the "short straw". It has never bloomed in our home until this year. Generally anything that blooms, I end up photographing. I know Christmas Cactus comes in other colors, but I believe pink is the only color I have ever seen.

Angela, the cat's original name was Sallie, but with its unexpected transition, Bruce was suggested as more of a joke. My wife settled on Sam or Sammy, but I generally call it C.A.T. or just Cat.
We accept the cat either way.

My very first cat was named KAT, and she was a witch... and then I got another female and named her Yogi... she was also very unfriendly!! I swore I wouldn't get another female, but we have Lola, who's not so bad, but not very lovey.... I lost three cats this year and one, beautiful lilac point siamese was named Sam!!

Angela, the main reason I didn't want another pet is because at some point I have to deal with the loss. This cat lived on the street for about a year until it was brave enough to adopt us. Now whenever I sit down, it jumps in lap for some loving. It has very good house manners. It's a keeper.

Gary, I've lost quite a few pets in my years, but I feel, even if we only have them a short time, they give us so much love and laughter, as we do for them... it's worth the tears we shed for a short time.... to me, a house isn't a home without a furbaby to love!!
And your furbaby is repaying you for opening your heart and home to him with his love and good manners!!! He's one lucky boy!!!

Hi Katy,
I am pleased you like the cactus bloom. I don't think anything should be neglected, even the Christmas Cactus. This Spring I plan to re-pot it so it has better drainage, and then put it outside in the garden where it will be watered automatically every day. In the Fall, it can come inside and get ready for Christmas.
Thank you for your comment.

Be careful about watering too much--they can stand to be dry for a little while; they are succulent. Mine gets water once a week and it has sandy soil. It bloomed like crazy this year with a little feeding.
