Assuming the money didn't matter, but you wanted to keep it at or below $6500 - what would you pick? ... Nikon D5, or Fuji GFX 50S?

The Fuji is a mirrorless, not a DSLR.
The choice would depend on what subjects one shoots.
Apples and oranges again.

But the question was, what would you pick.

Exactly, Rook ....

These guys who've gone off the beaten track with the Leica dig cams (and others) and D850s don't count ...

hip is doing well I am now able to walk a bit without that damned walker attached to me all the time looks as though the operation worked this time. Don't know if I missed the point the D850 would be the camera that I would spend the cash on it would do everything I ever would demand of it, the D5 is great but would be overkill as I do mainly landscapes and non moving animals(I am far to shaky to try and keep up with anything fast moving ).
Do not know a lot about the Fuji so cannot comment will leave that for those in the know.

This one is easy. Of course the D850. With the limitation of $6500 I could get some lenses for the D850 but not for the GFX. A camera with a lens is always a better option than camera with no lens

Yeah, but, the D850 isn't listed, JPL ... the options are - D5 ... or Fuji GFX 50s (a medium format mirror-less) ... I'd have thought that'd be right up your alley!

Glad to know you're getting better and can walk now w/o a walker ... that means you're coming along, Terry .... good!!!!

Yeah, you did, actually ....

The point here is this: for a paltry!! $6500 - you could buy either the top-of-the-line Nikon D5 (a 20mp FF FX 35mm DSLR) OR a Fuji GFX 50S (a 50mp Medium Format Eye-level Mirror-less Dig Cam) ... sure, you'd still need a lens ... but, hey! ... you can't have everything!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, Terry ... don't eat too much!

neither I would get the D850 and have cash to go on a trip where I can break it in and get some nice shots

I’d buy nothing and go on two trips

I’m not too sure I would go with a digital camera. I’d probably buy a Leica M6 or M6TTL with a 35mm Summicron and accessory grip. If I had to go digital, I’d look for an affordable Leica M262 or used M10 (from an extremely reputable dealer like Tamarkin).

Bill ... it's not about what you'd do with $6500 ... it's about whether you'd pick a 35mm FF FX over a medium-format eye-level MILC - for the same bread!

Any specific reason why you'd pick those two, Allen?

Yes. I love snorkeling and the water is great in Hawaii. So I’ll be doing some underwater photography.

I’ve been to England numerous times driving out of London to Cambridge, York and Lincoln and then across Wales. I love London—but the next trip is to follow the trail of my wife’s Grandfather during WWII. Just returned from a trip to France visiting Dieppe and some Canadian WWII cemeteries. Drove to Honfleur, Rouen, and through about a 100 roundabouts. Beautiful villages, wonderful people, and fantastic food.

Allen ... you're the first one I've ever seen to note England's "fantastic food" ....

Not everyone in America loves Yorkshire Pudding, Brussels Sprouts, Roast Beef and Boiled Potatoes .... you're the first!

Ham and Egg Pie or Steak and Kidney Pie for lunch; Egg, Spam, Baked Beans and Chips - for breks .... yaaaaaaay!!!

Oops. That was referring to my trip to France this past October.

I was mostly responding to his original post stating the Fuji was a DSLR. He corrected that.

Me? I like to do on-location portraits, very little sports and never birds in flight, so the Fuji would be a great one for me. If the skin tones are anywhere near that of my S5pro, it will be amazing.
