I'm curious what bag, backpack, hard shell or soft, do you use for everyday carry from A to B? I'm looking at the Peak Design Everyday Messenger but the price is a bit steep, unless someone reading this is absolutely blown away by it. I am looking for protection, functionality, strength (well built), comfortable for the hike in/out, and a well deserved price. Again, just a daily carry. Thanks Hogs!!

Sorry, but it isn't possible to give you an answer.

There are too many brands and styles. If only we could have just two manufacturers making two kinds of bags.

I like Lowepro. I have a smallish hand-carry/shoulder strap bag and a Pro Runner 350 AW backpack, in addition to probably a dozen assorted bags. You never have enough, so get different styles from good manufacturers.

Go on line and look up Neewer. Very nice back packs for not a lot of money.
The best protection for your camera equipment is you.

It depends on what I need to carry.

I've got 5 bags, from a LowePro medium-sized sling pack to a LowePro Pro Trekker 450 AW. and a Lens Trekker 600 aw ii I can carry a camera and three lenses in the sling pack, and two bodies, a Sigma 150-600 attached to one of them, along with 6-7 other smaller lenses, accessories, laptop, tripod, and 1 L hydration bladder.

For hiking, the Pro Trekker is ideal - well made, lots of room for camera and non-camera stuff, very comfortable.

Kata used to make a great compact on the outside, but very large on the inside bag. It had a vertically split compartment - could fit a Canon 5D Mk III with a 500mm F4 attached, and 4 other lenses, flash accessories etc.

Lowepro bags are available directly from the manufacturer at www.aliexpress.com. Just received a $280 Lowepro priced bag from Adorama for 1/4 of,that number. Not a knockoff, but real Lowepro.

That is not directly from the manufacturer. Directly from the manufacturer would be on the Lowepro website. That is an Ali Baba sight. Which is the Chinese equivilant of Amazon. Ali Express caters to close outs overstock, clearance etc. similar to overstock.com. Yes you can get some great deals but you can also get knock offs sold as originals and worse have your info stolen and credit card used all over China. People need to be aware that there is not the same security on the Ali Baba sites as amazon

The LowePro Magnum series shoulder bags are the strongest shoulder bags I've ever checked out. They have a one-piece molded bottom that can take a lot of weight. I have the Magnum 200. It's a fairly large bag. The 400 and 650 models are even bigger. I also have a variety of the LowePro Nova shoulder bags. They're great bags but not as strong as the Magnum series bags.

I have a few bags, but the Peak Design Everyday backpack 20L is what I like the most. Yes, it's pricey, but its ability to adjust to different gear configurations, with the adjustable dividers, makes it top notch. Also there are three ways to access your gear.

I can fit my gripped Fuji XT-2, with 55-140mm (70-200mm equivalent) attached, across the bag. It would not fit a FF camera with 70-200mm, but the bigger brother, the 30L, would.

I also can carry the 100-400 across the bag, and there's plenty of room for another shorter lens, flash, spare batteries, etc.

For a messenger bag, I use the Think Tank retro 20, which will fit any full frame camera with 70-200 lens attached, plus 2-3 more lenses and flash.

I have a couple smaller Lowepro bags for when I'm traveling or want to carry less kit.

It's hard to go wrong with any of those brands, plus what others have suggested

For long days carrying the gear, I'm definitely a backpack guy.

I tried a lot of bags (I have a pile of unused camera bags in my attic) and settled on Think Tank. They have bags for every kind of (camera) purpose.

Me TOO!!! Including the pile of old and now unused bags, in the basement in my case! In addition ThinkTank now has a new MindShift line of backpacks and bags for Outdoor Photographers.

As Fred noted, they have an extensive line of products for most all purposes and in several different design lines. Check them out.

Best Regards,

I love these bag ads that just show a shot of the outside of the bag. THAT'S THE LEAST IMPORTANT VIEW WHEN LOOKING FOR A CAMERA BAG. It's what's inside that counts. Everyone wants to know how they will fit their equipment in it. Show the interior with lenses and cameras in it and give the dimensions!!! I bought a Domke online and had to return it. If the ad had shown the dimensions with the photo it would have helped. It was 5 or 6 inches too small. That's great for UPS but NOT for me.

I buy my bags from ebay. A bag is a bag is a bag. Even used a bag is still a bag. A little older, a little worn, at 60-80% off list, these slightly used name brand bags will give you years of service. Consider them as alternatives to over priced new bags.

I think you will find that the bag you got is, in fact, a fake. It might even be made in the same factory as real Lowepro bags, and might have some of the same hardware (the rubber Lowepro emblem, zipper pulls, and so on) and tags. But the material might be flimsier, the padded inserts thinner and less robust, stitching and thread lower quality, and so on.

The bags look like they are real, but put one side by side with a real Lowepro; if there isn't a difference the I would be surprised and you got a great deal. But it is more likely that you would be disappointed, and the bag would not hold up to wear.

I have a Ruggard Backpack. It has enough room to carry 4 or 5 lenses (including my 80-400mm tripod mount and lens hood) extra batteries, extra memory cards lots of pockets and 3 zip compartments in addition to the camera area which has lots of Velcro padded dividers. It also has two pockets on the side that are perfect for camera batteries and an additional fold down area on the front for pens etc. This has enough room that I can carry it on airplanes with a couple of changes of clothes in it and it will fit easily under the seat. Frontier charges extra for any more than 1 bag or that won't fit under the seat.
