I use topaz denoise v 6. I find the lens presets a good place to start. Then the adj. are used to check and eliminate luma, Rgb and color noise.

Does DxO work as a LR plug-in?
Yes. Using the original raw or converted DNG file, choose Lightroom -> File -> Plug-in Extras -> Transfer to DXo Optics Pro 11 (or whatever version you're using).

Do you do a lot of low light shooting? The camera/ fast lenses, of today can shoot at high ISO and the noise is negligible. Are you able to use a flash? Noise has not been an issue for me, just interested why it is for you?

Actually I haven't run into noise with my current camera. However, I have some older photos that do have noise. They were done in JPG because that is all I could do with that camera. I am trying to improve them. I used to have Noise Ninja a number of years ago. I wasn't really taking many pictures for a while and was not doing PP. Trouble is I have forgotten a lot of what I did back then. I think old age is affecting my memory (I'm 74) LOL.

I have used and checked many of the noise reduction apps and DXO Optics Pro is by far the best on the market today....! It's power is limited to RAW files, so if you shoot only JPEG files stick with Noiseware.

Currently I just shoot RAW, however some of the photos I want to work on are older and shot in JPG. Do either or both of these programs work as plug-ins to Photoshop on a PC? I would like to use a plug-in if there is a good one around and not have a totally new program to learn. I still have so much to learn and re-learn about Photoshop and my camera that I am reluctant to get a new program that has a steep learning curve.

I use Photoshop and not Lightroom.

I don't do a lot of noise reduction, and I haven't tried the DxO program so can't speak to that one, but Topaz Denoise does a decent job, upgrades are always free, and it's easy to use. I do usually mask off areas I don't want affected, tho. It works as Photoshop plug-in, or can be a standalone, if you have TopazFXLab.

I have some older photos that were taken in JPEG because the camera did not shoot RAW. I would like to reduce the noise in these photos. I don't have a problem as of yet with the D500 shooting raw. I have not yet shot in real low light situations to shoot the high ISO where I might get noise.

Why don't you get the trial version of topaz denoise 6 and see if it works for your photos. Do you have a host program like photoshop or Lightroom? I shoot with a d750 so don't have much noise until I get to ISO 1600 or higher, like you I cleaned up older images with denoise. Hope this helps.
