I have done a search on this topic and I don't find anything newer than 1 1/2 years. I'm sure there have been other threads, but they just didn't have noise in their title. I use Photoshop but not Lightroom. I started with Photoshop a number of years ago and just haven't gotten into Lightroom.

What noise reduction software do you find is best? Noise Ninja is what I used a few years ago, but it is no longer supported. The cost of the software is not an issue, I just want something that is good and is supported.

Is Lightroom available on PC and/or Mac? I have a MacBook Pro, and an HP Envy currently. I really don't like Apple anymore. I saw them launch iTunes and play a song many times for a few weeks, when I decided to not pay for my music "cloud" and I lost a ton of my music. Plus, they deleted a website I had with them, without my permission. I sure do wish I videotaped them launching iTunes and playing a song. Talk about a back door...

Actually PS CC gives you all the tools you need to deal with noise effectively. The process is a bit involved but it works. It does not involve a softening of the images either, something most add-on do..

The noise tools in PS and LR are rather powerful. Cutting edge is Topaz DeNoise v6 and others. Rather than searching here, you should be googling reviews of current products in the noise market. You also should be using google to find technique demonstrations using either PS or LR. My own observation is that the higher the ISO, the better the specialized tool performs relative to the Adobe tools.

Actually, the best noise removal is with DxO Optics Pro, elite version. It only works on the RAW image and they call it Prime Noise removal. What I like is how it intelligently figures out the noise and doesn't do it with just blurring like so many others do.

In addition, it has other tools that can make a big difference too. I like the micro contrast adjustment, the clear image and the light adjustment.

LIghtroom (and Adobe Camera Raw) are my go-to solutions. I also am very fond of DXO optics Pro and their Prime noise reduction.

I use Macphun Noiseless. I use to use Photo Ninja (which contains Noise Ninja), but I like Noiseless better. I think it is only available for Mac.

I've used Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz. I've not used DxO.

My experience matches what was recently written by Matt Kloskowski. They are all so good that the differences in results depends on the user's techniques and skills.

To answer your question regarding what software I use, my answer is the same as what pano software I use. I use what I designed and wrote with an associate back around 2002. The noise reduction program has been modified or revised a few times to take into account the higher ISO settings available in more recent cameras. Otherwise, it has stayed pretty much the same for the last 17 years.

One word of caution. Don't get too hung up on grain. It's part of photography. In reducing noise (grain), some programs will sacrifice detail. Thus, small details in the photograph can be removed as these noise reduction programs do not have the where with all to differentiate between small details and noise. This was a concern of mine when I wrote what I did.

I agree that specialized tools have advantage over PS or LR at higher ISO. I like and did use Topaz Denoise but more recently switched to Macphun Noiseless. I've noticed that Noiseless seems to be incorporated to some extent into Macphun Luminar.

Why do you have noise?
