Yes EVFs do differ but none are a quick as mirrors. It's basic physics.

^^^More like BIOPHYSICS.

The refresh rate of MODERN EVF's is LITERALLY faster than the impulse can travel from your eye to your brain... and when you add in the time it takes the human brain to process the image, it's NO CONTEST.

Either you are dreaming or you should be studied by MIT if you can actually see a difference in two images that are separated in time by the time light travels ... oh let's say six inches.

I along with numerous others have photos on this site taken with the Sony. Check them out first.

Here are a couple of mine. Both hand held.

Who told you a view finder will give exposure information? Look at the historgram. The camera will set the exposure depending on how it is set up.

...surely the camera would have to take shutter speed into consideration before it showed you the image in the viewfinder.

Yes, it does. I just checked. As you change the shutter speed to the extremes, the view in the viewfinder gets brighter and darker. I'd save the 180 mile round trip drive and order one online. There are endless reviews and articles online.

I use an Olympus mirrorless camera, when you compose the photograph in the viewfinder or the screen you will see a live view of the scene when the shutter button is half pressed, so you can judge if your settings are correct.

The EVF on the A6000 is very good, but the EVFs on the A6300 and the A6500 are even better. I think the image in the EVFs are bigger and cleaner than the viewfinders on equivalent priced DSLRs which tend to be very small in that price range. Displaying the over exposure zebra bars and the focus peaking dots and the histogram can clutter the EVF but they are great information to have.

What camera is it you are suggesting the O.P. buy on-line?I have and use 6 different cameras(mostly pentax) and never saw or held any in hand at a bricks & boards shop. All bought from one online provider(B&H) or THE other(ADORAMA) B&H has pretty much been my source Past few years. digit-up

I added Olympus to my cameras as a vacation alternative I started with Pen-f 12-40f2.8 and 1/2 the size 1/3 weight with the exception of few photo situations the images from the Olympus system rival the images out of my FF D5 or D500 I'm now deeper into the Olympus system with OMD em1mk2 and several pro line Olympus lenses and find I grab it more than my beloved Nikon stuff

Another thing. With my Sony mirrorless, I can do everything through the EVF including changing the Menu settings and reviewing the picture. If I had to use the rear LCD for this I would have to put my reading glasses on to see what I am doing. With the diopter on the EVF set properly, I don't need glasses at all. I don't know how much you can do on a typical DSLR viewfinder, but that should be a consideration if you use glasses.

If you go to a store to check out a mirrorless, don't just pick it up and play with it. Have somebody give you a proper demonstration. Many of the best features may be in the menu set up.

Whatever camera he wants - without taking a 90-mile ride to hold one. Almost all of my photo gear has been purchased online, especially in the last nine years.

I don't think I'd like to purchase with out "touching" first I'm fortunate in that I have a great pro store within 20 minutes drive
Another great place is a photo show like at the Jacob javits center in NYNY Photo Plus

I believe everything I read in reviews, so I don't have to touch anything.

I don't have a great photo store.

I have a Sony a7 that came with the 50mm kit lens that I traded up for the Zeiss 55mm. I also added both Nikon lenses and Canon fd lenses that I adapted to the Sony. No autofocus on any of the adapted lenses, even with the expensive metabones adaptor...it tries to autofocus, but searches way too long and never finds sharp. That is not a problem for me since I like to focus by hand
