Nice images, Dan. We can only hope the locals wake up to the plight of these animals.

The giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus), also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, is a rare megabat and one of the largest bats in the world. The species is endangered and is currently facing the possibility of extinction because of poaching and forest destruction. It is endemic to forests in the Philippines. Excellent set. We need to save all species and your images help with that.

Very nice! I have seen them in a zoo - they are very impressive. I understand that they are commonly eaten, which is hard on their survival.

Now that is something different! Very interesting and great shots. Such a shame we have to destroy everything that gets in our way.

You are correct, that is the issue with the local folks, hopefully local practice can be changed.

Why would this creature be subject to poaching?

Great shots! Do note that photo 4 is upside down , as your "chickens" have their heads down!😁

Saw big bats on Roatan island a few years ago, while eating dinner outdoors...they were fruit bats. Beautiful as they fly. Your photos are the abdolute best!

When i lived on Guam in the 50's there were very large Fruit bats. The locals were decimating their numbers nightly with shot guns. I don't know if any exist today. Pretty sad.
