When I worked in Freetown, Sierra Leone, the "Cotton Tree" in the centre of town was located in the middle of a crossroad junction and therefore it was a roundabout for traffic. There was a large colony of fruit bats that roosted in that tree. The road surface below was a mottled colour. Definitely not recommended for pedestrians.
