I am looking for a new vacuum cleaner. I have had 2 Dyson's. Not worth the money (in my honest opinion), Elextrolux, Bissell, Hoover. I am tired of throwing my money away on disposable vacuum's. Everyone tells me that canister's are better than upright's for picking up dirt.
I went in to a local Sew & Vac shop in Rhode Island. The woman was trying to be helpful, but her 3 year old son spent the entire time knocking over vacuum's and boxes of filters. He was a terror and I couldn't focus on what she was saying. I wish I had my camera to take a before and after shot of the sales floor. It looked like Hurricane Irma and Jose hit the showroom.

I have a Miele upright and love it, but I've only owned it for 3 years. So far, so good. Before that I owned a top of the line Sears canister. (Very similiar to Hoover model) ...when it worked, it was wonderful...but the hose cracked after only a couple of months...got a replacement and that one eventually did the same thing. That's what made me spring for the Miele.

Just a few months ago I picked up a pair of Roomba 850's - one for upstairs and one for downstairs. They do the whole house with the exception of the stairs. And they do a better job than any vacuum we've ever had. The are far more thorough in covering the whole area than we are manually, they fit under things we never got under before, and we have vacuumed using the upright Oreck and then immediately used the Roomba and were amazed at how much the Oreck apparently missed. And virtually no effort!

I have had a Miele Canister for 12 years with zero issues. Built like a tank and replacing bags is not a big deal for us.

I would not trade my Rex Rainbow for any other vacuum. The absolute best and I have had many different vacuums. Another extremely good one is a Filter Queen.

We've had a Electrolux Oxegen canister for more than a dozen years and works great and have had only one problem. Quiet and light and gets under couches / beds etc. Cleans hardwoods easily with the floor brush. The belt & brush in the carpet head wore out after years of cat hair, but available online and pretty straight forward to change. That model is no longer made, similar looks like the UltaSilencer ($329 on Amazon). We bought it at Best Buy. They have a demo floor they thru dirt on so my wife could try out various brands.

I have a rainbow and I love it! I have a lot of allergies and since the dirt you pick up, with a few exceptions, like powder or other non soluble compounds, is filtered through the water, my house is cleaner and the dust factor is down!!! What sold me on the rainbow was when the sales person vacuumed my mattress that I always have a cover protector on!!! Ck it out!!! Good luck!

My Hoover really sucks !! And I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Friends have brought their vacs over to compare to my Hoover, and many of them returned theirs for one.

Mine is a 2000 model with the dirt finder option and can't say what the new ones are like, but I haven't heard of any complaints the ones my friends got.

I've had a Miele canister for at least 15 years with zero issues (other than the bags are proprietary and relatively expensive). Solid as a rock and 2 additional filters besides the bag. I would buy another in an instant, but this one will probably last me the remainder of my life 😸.
