It's not something anyone truly NEEDS. But it is a tempting toy for gamers and a really useful tool for business people. Apple will probably be a trillion dollar company soon, largely due to the items they introduced today.

I hope so. I have a lot of Apple shares.

It's true, iPhones are amazing devices. What I don't care for is that the advances in mobile devices seem to come at the expense of computers. I understand that mobile devices are where the money is so that's where the focus is, but Apple built it's reputation on computers and it seems a shame to me that Apple has put them on the bottom shelf.
For me, I don't need all the things that smartphones offer. They have functions and apps that are convenient, but not necessary. The "phones" keep getting larger and more expensive and a new one comes out every year and (to me) that smells of planned obsolescence.
I had an iPhone 5, then an iPhone 6, but I don't really need anything more from a phone than a phone. I wonder if the popularity of getting a new smartphone every year is a form of mass hysteria.
Any way, I switched to a LG Revere flip phone and don't feel that I'm missing anything. That's just me, to each his own.

I may own Apple but I tend to agree with you. To me, texting is like going back to the 19th century. TYPING WITH YOUR THUMBS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Let's go back to the telegraph. WATCHING MOVIES ON A 5 INCH SCREEN WHEN I HAVE A 48" SCREEN AT HOME??? REALLY??? I have a magnifying glass for you. Oh and what sound quality. LMAO.

You are not alone. I do it to myself all the time, too.

I'm still using a flip phone. I only need it to make a phone call. Don't need all
the bells and whistles of the so called smart phones.

banking tool
TV Guide
portable "Cable" TV
casual still camera and still image editor
casual video camera and video editor
portable FAX machine
portable scanner
portable audio recorder and mixer
note taker
travel advisor (Yelp!, Urban Spoon, Open Table, Hampton Inn app, Fly Delta app, Allegiant Air app, RCI, Travelocity, Expedia, Enterprise...)
text and messaging app
Video phone (FaceTime, Skype)
Contact database/phone book
Internet browser
Dictionary
Social media communicator
Kindle Reader and iBooks reader
Internet radio
Barcode reader
Magazine reader
Shopping tool (eBay, Amazon, Target, Walmart, B&H, Best Buy...)

...and a lot more. But those are the things I'll use in the course of daily life.

I have computers as well. Content creation (other than photographic/video/audio capture) is best done on a computer.

I had an iPad five years ago. It was a content consumption and reference device, but not as convenient for things best done on the iPhone or Mac/PC.

I don't (yet) see a need for the smart watch.

But the iPhone and Macs are probably the two things I have that are truly satisfying to use, and I use them a LOT.

I probably use Notes more than any other app. It has become my to do list, grocery list, inventories of supplies, and keeper of seldom used information (cartridge numbers for printers, hotel membership numbers, etc.). Occasionally, I use it as a phone, too.

The portrait lighting feature on the new camera phone is amazing if it really works. It looks like you can light a shot with a single light and the computer in the phone will create any type of portrait lighting you want. I wonder if this will be made available for post procesing software.

I consider myself to be a practable guy and have no need of such gadgetry. I make a few phone calls each month (usually on a landline) and own a flip phone for on the road emergencies.

Apple today introduced its third generation Watch, a new Apple TV 4K, iPhone 8, and iPhone X (pronounced ten).

The amount of change they have revealed in just one year is mind boggling. I won't talk about it here... Their web site has all the details.

The new iPhone cameras are scary good. You have to see the demo to understand why.

And turning your face into an animated emoji (animoji) that talks in your own voice with YOUR expressions? Priceless... You can even turn your face into an animated pile of poo! (as Craig Federighi demonstrated live)

I'm as stunned today as I was in January, 2007, watching Steve Jobs reveal the first iPhone.

The Apple naysayers will now come out from under the bridge. But do yourselves a favor, naysayers, and go to the web site and watch the demos and films.

Some how I've managed to navigate for 78 years without a gold plated "walkie talkie".
Truth is I've always been a techie but as my age advances my vision retreats and while smart phones interest me I can't use them. Now if apple would come up with something that spoke information....................

A camera is only as good as the brain behind it. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Right now my brain hasn't yet caught up with my D7000. So much to learn, so little time.

Isn't this sort of like saying that IBM built their business on Typewriters...
Time and technology marches on...
Computers are not very convenient to carry with you, nor needed for most of the things people want to do on the go.
Hence the Smart Phone.

Best,
Todd Ferguson
