...and a lot more. But those are the things I'll use in the course of daily life.

I have computers as well. Content creation (other than photographic/video/audio capture) is best done on a computer.

I had an iPad five years ago. It was a content consumption and reference device, but not as convenient for things best done on the iPhone or Mac/PC.

I don't (yet) see a need for the smart watch.

But the iPhone and Macs are probably the two things I have that are truly satisfying to use, and I use them a LOT.

This is exactly the problem. I am using my 4 y.o. Nokia Lumia phone for mostly those same things and there is nothing new that tempts me. Those games and face recognition stuff is not for me. And the camera in the new iPhone seems to be far behind what I already have. Actually it is a shame that a $1000 cameraphone does not have a decent camera. The camera is something that almost every smartphone user uses today.

My iPhone has reliability issues. My previous iPhone had reliability issues. They need to make a phone that reliably works for two years ...... or they need to stop sealing the body and allow me to readily replace basic components such as the battery.

Yes I read about the new iPhones but didn't stream the event. Strange, but since retiring, the only Apple devices we have are my iPhone 7 Plus and a 4 year old iPad. There's so much competition for laptops and heavy duty workstations, a large chunk of the population uses other devices with a Windows OS. But nearly everybody has and loves an iPhone. I'm planning to keep mine for a couple years at least, but I know without comparing, researching, don't remotely care about the phone camera, but my next phone will be another iPhone.

If you look at the numbers, Apple sells more phones than all their other products combined. I sure don't have the knowledge to know if that's a good thing or bad, but I guess even with the Steve Jobs audio inspiration, the company still has to keep investors happy.

Just saw the iPhone X on twitter - pretty cool and zoomy but I'm saving my coins for a better lens.

Apple today introduced its third generation Watch, a new Apple TV 4K, iPhone 8, and iPhone X (pronounced ten).

The amount of change they have revealed in just one year is mind boggling. I won't talk about it here... Their web site has all the details.

The new iPhone cameras are scary good. You have to see the demo to understand why.

And turning your face into an animated emoji (animoji) that talks in your own voice with YOUR expressions? Priceless... You can even turn your face into an animated pile of poo! (as Craig Federighi demonstrated live)

I'm as stunned today as I was in January, 2007, watching Steve Jobs reveal the first iPhone.

The Apple naysayers will now come out from under the bridge. But do yourselves a favor, naysayers, and go to the web site and watch the demos and films.

Amazing. Maybe one day I might own one instead of that old and outdated Blackberry that I carry around.

I have a Raspberry. Don't really have time to learn how to use it though.

Husband and I live so far out in the woods that we don't get bars so the only cell phone we own is a track phone in the car for emergency situations. Not being tied to a smart phone is a very freeing experience.

Go to www.iFixIt.com for parts and instructions. They have tools to get into it, and videos to show you how.

My 3GS lasted five years --- two with me, three with my daughter. My 4s lasted four years and still worked fine when I traded it. I should have kept the 6s Plus instead of getting a 7 Plus. I'll keep the 7 Plus as long as I can. I have two kids in college!

I think I'll keep my iPhone 6 and use $1000 for a another lens for my Nikon D500 before I upgrade my phone. Regarding the Apple Watch I have one version two. When I bought it for about $400 I also owned a Brietling Super Ocean that I've had for 20 years or so that cost $1800. Today a Breitling like mine costs $5000 And my Apple Watch is probably worth about 50 bucks matbev$100? All good products we just have to decide where we want to spend our money.

Some years ago I would have been interested, but the fact is that I find no need for a new smartphone yet. I am using a 4 year old smartphone that does everything I wish and does it well. But I will look at this new iPhone in case the camera might be good enough to consider switching to apple.

Well, had a quick look at the info and specs and can not say that it tempts me. I am going to pass on this model X. I am a practical guy and all this funny stuff just turnes me off

Me as well - I use my 4-year old iPhone as a telephone, and it works well. I do use text messaging and a number of very useful Aps. I don't need a new $1,000 phone to do that.

Great gadget and iPhone have excellent apps, but they are questionable as business tools imho.

It's still almost impossible to create even a short Word doc, save it as a PDF then email it PLUS an image to a client - a task Androids and BB10 devices do with ease.

For most tasks, iPhones require more button presses than either of the above alternatives.

Great apps though, if that's what you are into.

Just as reference, I have a old iPhone 6 which lives in the glove box of my car, for music and occasional navigation; a Blackberry Passport as the daily business workhorse (it also runs a few android apps), and an (free!) Android as a second phone number.

Got the iPhone as part of a new contract but hated it.

The Samsung Note 8 looks interesting but expensive, but I have no desire to be sucked back into the IOS ecosystem as it is just too restrictive.

Would love to find one single phone to do all things, including dual SIM.

My 2¢...

I have a number of toys. Older Porsche, Harley for example but for the past year I've been gerting into wildlife photography and love it. Of course I can combing hobbies. Ride the Porsche to the Rolex 24 hour with Nikon D500 and 300-500 lens or ride Harley to the beach with Tamron 18-400 lens.

YOLO
