Welcome grasshopper to the site. I have used Nikon, Canon, and Minolta/Sony for over 55 years. I have not experienced what you are stating in your comment. I believe you need to do more research and explain yourself in more depth next time. Do some more home work, then report back to class tomorrow with a more in depth question or comment.

If the OP meant the new AF-P lenses then they do have some incompatibilities with the D7200.

I feel your pain. I was a loyal Nikon shooter with film, topside and underwater, through the F-6 series. When I converted to digital in 2005, Nikon had the small censor and required all different lenses. For that reason, I converted to Canon, having the large censor and interchangeable lenses...a BIG plus. Once you get invested in expensive L glass lenses it is extremely expensive to change. However, with the 5DSr having the Medium Format size censor, that was a game changer giving me the ability to take Medium Format images without the $50,000 price tag. For that I could not be happier with Canon products...a good decision since 2005.

Glad I don' have those kind of problems. Three lenses one camera that will last me for a loooong tome and happily taking photos with it..and pretty good ones at that.

This comment is misleading. Here is the correct answer about the New 70-300.

These cameras reset focus to infinity as they wake up.

This is only a problem if you want to use a remote timer, expecting the camera to stay focused where you left it, otherwise no problem at all.

FX: D4, D4S, D3, D3X, D3S, Df, D810, D810A, D800 or D800e and D700.

DX: D300, D300S, D7200, D7100, D7000 and D5200.

And, since I use only Manual focusing when using a remote timer, I find the new 70-300 works PERFECTLY on my Nikon D810. Your comment is completely false and misleading.

The only issue with your camera and one of mine (D800) is the camera resets the focus to infinity when it wakes up. That only affects timed photography. It is a fantastic extremely sharp lenses. The output rivals my 70 200 'VR ii. It is relatively light and all things considered a bargain. It is much better than my old 70 300 'VR.

Since 2005 switching to digital, I have only two DSLR the D200 & Df, I I'm using them with the old Nikon lenses from 1970s and MF lenses of other brand, I do have several AF Nikon lenses, but all of them are AF/AF-D type, not G. I love to using aperture ring for aperture control, the G; P; E whatever they call them is not for me. I will not care what kind of new lens they will bring it out. I am happy with what I have, if I want an other, I will stay with the "D"

Like others here I have a few "new" and old lenses that I use with my Nikon bodies. I do not need anything else.
Technology changes, like it did when we went from film to digital. Like it did when we went from manual focus to AF. Like it did when we began to use a multi-pattern meter.
There are plenty of lenses to use with your D7200 to please any aspect of your photography.

I bought 1 G lens (24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 G non VR) when I bought the F5 in 2002. All my other lenses have aperture ring and I always use aperture ring on my Df.

Nikon and Pentax have been playing "catch up" ever since Canon introduced EF lenses thirty years ago.

I moved to Canon in 1995 because of those lenses ... and back to Pentax in 2015 because there is more to a camera than lenses.

The best lenses out there period are the manual focus Carl Zeiss T* lenses for Nikon and Canon. They blow the socks off both the EF lenses and Nikon gold circle lenses. PERIOD, end of discussion.
