Ly ticked off in what they are doing. I bought a d7200, not because it was their flagship D.C. Camera. But it seemed like a nice piece of equipment. Then came the
d500. Which did not bother me. Then the d7500. Which did not bother me. But now they are making new optics with new electronics that cannot be used with the camera that I bought. It is really frustrating that they did this. It seems to be a real screw job. I will keep what I have but I won't be buying anymore Nikon equipment. They seem to intentionally screw people

Welcome to UHH. You can thank technology for that and consumers who want change. If the car industry did not do change you still would be driving a Model A or T.

I use several Nikon DSLR's but I also have many older "Pro" level lenses in both MF & AF variants, covering from 18 to 500mm. I refrain from spending the money for the "Latest & Greatest" as normally the improvements aren't worth the cost and I have most all focal lengths & fast apertures covered. But, that said, to each their own...Your camera is still a fine piece of gear, don't get hung up on the "Latest & Greatest" craze...
First...Welcome to the forum. I hope it proves to be beneficial to you.
I agree with ScreaminScott. I have D300/D300s and D810. I also have several AF-D lenses...some of which I have had for a number of years and one which I just recently purchased used on this site. And also some newer lenses. I'm pretty much set for equipment...now just need to save up for a 14-24mm wide angle of some sort.
While the latest versions of lenses do offer some incremental improvements sometimes, that improvement sometimes comes at the cost of increased size and weight or occasionally the loss of some earlier functions. Incompatibility with the latest and greatest can also be incentive to "shop smart" on this site and other sources for excellent used equipment. That can be fun and can save a lot of money.
And when you feel maxed out, you can sell your stuff here and go on a quest for new.

How rude of them for not contacting you to let you know what they had in the pipeline.
Are you referring to the new "E" lenses that have an electronic aperture? They are compatible with these cameras:
D5, D4, D4s, D3, D3s, D3P, D3x, Df, D810, D800/e, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300, D300s, D7000, D7100, D7200, D7500, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100, Nikon 1 J1, J2, J3, J4 with FT-1, Nikon 1 V1, V2, V3 with FT-1, and Nikon 1 S1, S2 with FT-1.

Are you referring to the new Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm and its limited compatibility? If so, it is very disappointing, especially since they don't advertise that fact. I was about to buy that lens and discovered it didn't fully work with my D810 or D7200. Instead I bought the new Sigma 100-400mm and am really happy I did. It's a great lens, sharper than the older Nikon 70-300.

Excuse me, but what optics and new electronics that cannot be used with your camera? You have an incredibly capable Dx camera body with a manufacturer who offers an incredible array of lenses. Not to mention Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc, etc, etc and the range of lenses available for crop sensor camera bodies.
Learn to use your D7200; it is the eye behind the viewfinder that is responsible for creativity, not your gear.
I just got stung by a mosquito....thought you would want to know. Thank you.
I suggest you get over it and go take some pics. And FYI I would bet there are more lens out there that will work on your camera than you can afford. BTW: Welcome to UHH where old photographers never die, their negative just fades away to nothing. Good shooting to you.

Welcome to our forum!
One of the big advantages of shooting with Nikon is being able to use virtually any Nikon lens on any DSLR. If that must change, it's the cost of progress.
What optics and electronics did you have in mind?
If you're referring to the new line of P lenses you should check for a firmware update for your camera. I've got an older D90, a D3300, D500 and D810 with the exception of the D90 they all have firmware updates available to allow the full function and use of the new line of P lenses. Here is a link to the D7200 firmware download page, I hope this helps you out, good luck and keep shooting.

Given that Canon had to dump their whole line of lenses when they went to auto-focus back in the day because they would not mount on EOS cameras, and I can use my Nikon lenses from 1980 perfectly on my newest Nikon DSLR, I can't really fault Nikon. Do the research, buy what will work for you, and hope that technology doesn't change too much and upset your apple cart.

I am a Canon user- One of the thing I didn't like about Canon is they changed the lens mount after upgrading to digital. I admired Nikon for keeping their mount when they upgraded. I thought it was because Nikon cared about their loyal customers and didn't want to render expensive lenses useless on their newer cameras. Was there any press releases regarding reasons for the changes and are the newer cameras unable to use the new lenses. Or am I not understanding what is happening with Nikon?
