I got a message from FedEx on my phone. The message was for someone else. The message said this was there third attempt to contact this person and no other attempts would be made. It gave the name of the person, the place to pick it up, and the tracking numbers. and I.D. would be required.
So I thought I would be a nice guy and call FedEx. Calling FedEx is easy talking to a real person is something else altogether. Anyway I just wanted to tell them they called the wrong number. And that this person had not received there third call. After a good twenty minutes pushing prompts, I finally got a customer service person. And I explained FedEx had called the wrong person. And they asked how do I know this person, I said I don't know who this person is. Then they asked why am I calling. I explained again, and they asked for the tracking numbers. I gave them the numbers. Then they asked were was the package shipped from. I told them I didn't know. Then they said the person would get called when the package was not picked up. Again I explained this was there third notice and they have not gotten three notices because they called me. Then they asked where is the package. And I gave them the FedEx addresse the package was ready to be picked up at. Then they asked if I knew when the package would be picked up. Once again I gave the name of the person and tracking numbers. And said call this person and hung up.

Smacks of scam/phishing, etc. Fedex to my knowledge does not call. I worked for the USPS for some time, and saw frequently printed versions of the same thing - both from Fedex and the Post Office. IF YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING ANYTHING, DO NOT RESPOND! Save yourself a lot of grief, because unless you told them to call, or PAID them to, none of the major shippers will.

If it's a scam what do they want. I don't get it.

Sounds like the old "Who's on First" routine - but in real life! And the would-be recipient will never realize why their package never arrived...

I've never heard of FedX calling about delivery attempts, so it's probably a scam. But when you have third world people in boiler rooms handling your calls, they don't know anything except the scripts they've been given. They forgot the script that said we don't call people about delivery attempts, it must be a scam, ignore it. And now they've got someone with a bad impression of their company.

After 3 attempts, Fedex Express will call recipient and inform them that no more attempts will be made, and that they have xxx number of day to pickup package before it would be "returned to shipper."

I work at FEDEX Express, and yes the customer service in this case was "CRAP"

Since you worked for USPS maybe you can answer a question I have.
What is the relationship/operation between the commercial delivery services like Fedex, UPS, DHL and others that allows the final delivery by USPS? What are the mechanics of this process?
Thanks.

I get those packages almost weekly and it works well for me and is more efficient for them I'm sure.

No this is not a joke. I was doing everything I could to keep from laughing and asking for a supervisor. It's tickled me enough to post it. I' was just trying to do a good turn. But it is funny.
