Jerry, you captured an unusual structure there -- seems to resemble a fire escape but it appears to be built of wood! Or am I wrong? Anyway, you found an interesting angle for the patterns.

Thank you, RichardQ. It is a fire escape rusty steel on a very old building. The angle was my wifes idea she is the artist in the family but I'm slowly learning.

Also note spiral stairs on the left. Taken in San Antonio at The Pearl, the site of the historic Pearl Brewery. This area along the Riverwalk
has been converted to an upscale shopping/dining/hotel/condo complex. It is family/pooch friendly with a splash pad for the kids and is the site of a big farmers' market on the weekends. They have done a great job of preserving the architectural details of the buildings. Nikon D5600, 18-55 lens.

Nice work, Bobcat! Did the renovators convert any of the beer vats to indoor swimming pools? I wonder if any body ever succumbed to vertigo on those high open stairs?

Here's my entry into the Ladders, Stairs and Steps, this unique circular staircase is in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. You don't have to look to closely to notice that the staircase has no center post to support the steps since each step is the support for the next step. And it's not just for looks either, the Chapel has a book store that sells a history of the staircase and a photo showing the entire choir standing on the steps.

Beautiful capture of a marvelous achievement by some gifted craftsmen, Jack! That spiral staircase must extend three stories up -- or is it four? How old is it? I'd love to tackle it with my Plaubel Veriwide 100!

That's a nice capture in B&W, RR! I wonder what the designers were thinking when they built a fire escape that requires the people fleeing the fire to walk across a platform from one ladder to the next on each level. The usual practice is to have the ladders come down the building face in alternating diagonals. Perhaps the architect thought this design was more pleasing artistically, but I'll bet the fire chief didn't agree! Oh, well ... "is not my job!"

Meg, you did a great job in capturing that fantastic view from the stairs on top of Bell Mountain in Georgia! Kudos to the visionary who supported building that wonderful structure. That view with the steps leading down is simply breathtaking!!!

Your camera beautifully preserved a charming and inviting interior with a very handsome staircase. The Christmas tree was icing on the cake. I'd love to check in at that Inn!

Here's one I found in an Oxford back alley.

What a wonderful capture of a spiral staircase that twists between light and shadow, htbrown! Congratulations on your being able to spot it in that alley, and on having the skill to successfully compose it for us.

I expect a lot of Hoggers have one or more images including ladders, stairs or steps, because most photographers are tempted to capture those patterns when they spot them. So step aboard and post your answer to the challenge!

Thank you for posting this fine capture of weathered steps, Cheryl. Believe me, you are not missing anything by not being a professional, since that can take away most of the fun of photography. I have some comments that might help you improve your photo efforts. You saw and beautifully captured the textures and patterns of the railings and steps, which were your subject. But you overlooked the chair and shoes in the background, which were not your subject but which distract from your real image. That could have been avoided by either removing them before taking the picture, or by slightly tilting the camera so they were out of the frame. The moral: when your subject is not shifting around, take advantage of the opportunity to consider the "housekeeping" around your subject and compose accordingly. Please continue to enjoy your photography!

Some nice shots, all! Here's a couple for you.

I especially like your lighthouse treatment, dreklaw! Correct me, please, if I'm wrong, but I think you did a little PP which slightly darkened the upper section and the base of the photo, enhancing the image IMHO. I've done the same in some of my old film photos, especially in some snow scenes where the sky glare might slightly fog the intersection of sky and building or landscape. Of course, that was then, when lenses were uncoated.

What a Venetian whirl you captured there, htbrown! The composition is a grabber, and the tones are beautifully rendered!

Thanks for posting an unusual steps shot, GA shooter! Are those steps ever used for climbing or are they intended to prevent erosion when runoffs occur, as in your photo? I hope that liquid actually is rainwater and not "moonshine"!!!
