How do you know when the wild stray neighborhood cat moved in? This cat showed up about a year ago, and survived a very cold winter with deep snow. Eventually, with a little food, we became good friends. It turned out the cat is very friendly and has good house manners.

Hi PN man,
She seems to run the house and only allows my wife and me to live here.
Thank you for your comment.

Hi angler,
Thank you for your comment. I think we are stuck with a cat.

This seems like an appropriate thread to bring attention to the threat that domestic cats are to wildlife.
If you are a cat owner please be responsible and keep your pet indoors.

I knew from the face it was a girl!!
Thank you first off for adopting her, way too many unwanted cats on the streets..... and cats are like potato chips, you really can't just have one!!
At one time I had 7 (one for every day of the week), but sadly I am down to three and a dog.
She's a beauty and I'm sure brightens every minute of your day!!

Samantha90, you are 100% on target. The cat (no name yet) has made itself a permanent part of our life.
Thank you for your comment.

Hi Fayle,
I totally agree. Cats have nearly wiped out the song bird population in town. It has been years since I have seen a Mountain Bluebird or even a regular Bluebird.
Thank you for your comment.

Anela k, I hope this is going to be an "only child". And no, she doesn't brighten every minute of my day. She insists that everyone is up with her at 5:00am, otherwise she is a really an adorable cat.
Thank you for your insight and wonderful comments.

Gary - thank you! To the rest; this one is safe now and eats out very rarely I'll wager. Not even knowing Gary, the fact that he took this tiny beast in is enough for me to say, "Hip hip, hurrah, hip hip, hooray, he is a man with a heart! Gary, Gary, Gary!

Cat lover!

I had the same experience with a stray about 10 years ago who decided to take up residence on my front porch with her 4 kittens. For the first 2 or 3 days, when I would take food out for them, the mother would stand back with the kittens and hiss at me. After that, she would come over with her kittens and greet me. My son who was 25 years old at the time and living in our house, adopted 2 of them and 2 of my neighbors adopted the other 2. I ended up taking the mother to the Humane Society (one of the hardest things I ever did) but at least I know the mother was adopted by a good family. My son has since married and still has those 2 cats living with them. It's not hard to win over the affections of a stray cat or even a dog for that matter with a little food and shelter.
