I watched a totorial on Adobe TV and they said not to enlarge the image all at one time because the program has to invent pixles. If you try to enlarge in small steps till you get the size you want it will look better. I am talking about Photo Shop of course. The same might be true in other programs. You might try it and see the differents.
Thanks, Bill 41, I'll give both a try.
Good thought, sinatraman. It was one of those lucky shots. Thank you.
I am fortunate to be living here, photo guy. I have gotten a lot of deer shots off the deck as they travel their path or come in the yard for food.
jim, djw60, logos and Shiep: thank you. I'm pleased you like it.
Turbo, thanks for the suggestion. Another which I will play with.
Joe, thanks for your words.
Taff, I'd love for you to play with it. How do I make that happen?
clicktime, that's interesting. I'm excited to try that. Thank you.

As a friend was leaving my home, I saw a small herd of deer across the road in the snow. My camera always ready (but with it's 55 mm lens on for the animalss in the house) I grabbed it to take the photo. It is cropped to bring up the subjects, but there are too few pixels to get definition. I like this shot. Is there anything I can do to enhance it.
Rose,
Overall this is a rather good capture, if you had used a longer focal length lens you would have missed the ability to use the trees and foreground as a natural frame.
Use the large tree to level the image (It's leaning downhill).
Once level crop the image to allow the large tree, small tree, and foreground to create an image frame.
When you are finished tweaking the image save it with a medium resolution (300dpi) and print size (5 x 7 - 8 x 10 inch).

I think you have an absolutely amazing composition either by intuition or plan. Look at where the most forward deer fall in a Fabioncci spiral that starts at the lower right corner. If this is cropped I think it may be tweaked with a little more of the sides to work with. Usually odd numbers work well in composition and here you have the little pine, the big pine and our third (odd number) is the hard wood, how interesting. There are other things about the composition alone that make this a picture that can be looked at for sometime. And then there is the color, just the right amount in the snow and then POW, the yellow flowers.
I've put this in my photos to inspire painting collection. I just hope I do as well as you did.
I think this is a great photo from composition to contrast to color. Maybe I would straighten the horizon?? This would make a great holiday card. Congrats!
Love the way the deer are framed by the tree and snow covered limbs. Thanks.

It is quite possible the Deer and tree are on a hillside and making the horizon level will not work. Since most mature trees grow vertical making the large tree more vertical may help the composition, but be careful as the Deer may be leaning up the hill.
