If You Could Only Choose One Camera For The Rest Of Your Life Which One Would It Be?

The Canon 5D that I'm currently using does everything I need. I don't see myself buying another camera as I don't need a bunch of bells and whistles! I spose if I suddenly got the urge to print wall size prints I'd need a newer model but it would have to be one that accommodates my bag - full of lenses!

I think i'll stick with Nikon d 750 Full Frame and advanced focus system is fine with me as I get older. More interested in getting better lenses.

I would like a 'digital' version of my first DSLR, a Fujinon ST801. I found it's little diode metering system to be so easy to understand, and the lenses were good too, perhaps under-rated at the time. I used mainly AGFA process paid slide film with some KODAK 64 a.s.a. but I think the shots I took way back then had the best colour and contrast of anything I've used.

I would chose a camera that took nothing but award winning photographs despite whatever
mistakes I make in the settings.

Please elaborate on the reasons for your choice if you wish.

My first Nikon was the FTn in 1971, my last Nikon will be the Df!

In the future I will be getting the Nikon D911. It will be a 1.1gigapixel camera that does stills, 8k video, and short and medium range holograms. Obviously, all the images will be in stereo vision. That particular model will be introduced in 2044 but won't be widely available until 2045 when the 8-3000mm ultra-light zoom (just over 3.6 ounces) becomes standard. In the meantime, I'll use my D810.

I have a D3400. It is my first venture into digital. I did not want to spend thousands to find out what I wanted in digital. This was the right step for me as I am finding out what I do and do not like in digital. I knew I wanted to stay with Nikon and I do use my film lenses with this camera. I have not been happy with the speed of the lenses that seem to be acceptable in the digital world. I had a 1.4 50mm on my F2 and a 1.2 on my Canon EF. I loved both of those cameras and I just shot a roll of black and white through the old F2 last week. I did just get a AF 50mm 1.4 for the D3400 but have not been out with it yet. That may take care of my speed and depth of field issues. I know this camera will teach me what I want in my next camera. I like many of the options in digital. I can do many things with the camera that I had to do in the darkroom prior to digital and I have not had a darkroom for many years now. I'm not crazy about the auto focusing. Ideally I want the old split screen manual focusing screen for when I don't want auto focusing. I also want more focal points that 'lock in" when I use auto focusing. Too often I focus on a subject and as I snap the picture it refocuses to something completely different. I would also like more frames per second, at least double than what this offers. Does Nikon offer something that takes care of these issues without going straight to the top? I still have a bunch to learn. I primarily take nature pictures.

Pentax 645D. Have alway liked the medium format. Love Pentax vintage lenses.

On the silly aspirational list I think the LS911 is going to be the winner.

For realistic, general purpose camera usage, pretty much any Canikon from the last 5 years will do most things fine.

Since you believe it "silly" why even post?

Totally Fuji X-T2, beautiful colors, great lenses, over the top ergonomics, and light.

So the take away is that your camera choice would not be the D3400?

I'd probably get the Unicorn model A. You know, the one that shoots full-frame RAW in 26MP as well as JPEG, comes equipped with a 10-2000 f/1.2 super zoom, has an articulating touch screen, full viewfinder, weighs just several ounces and fits in my shirt pocket. That one.

I've always wanted one of those so I checked around ... The current price is $800,000; I'll have to pass. :-)

You are correct. I don't know what my dream camera is. I have not found it yet. It would have the features of my Nikon F2 and Canon EF in digital format and updated for the 21st century. I may need to start my own post to see what others recommend. I think I am leaning toward a D700 or D810. I have to try them out.
