Thanks. When I was a kid, I could walk out in the back yard, look up and see the Milky Way. In this populated valley today i'm lucky to see Orion or the big dipper. I may have to try this. Or buy an RV.

Nice!
(that makes me wonder if using a graduated ND filter (upside down) would help eliminate or reduce horizon light pollution.)

I grew up in/near a city. Yes, I saw the stars at night, but the first time I actually saw the Milky Way was in up-state NY, almost in the middle of nowhere. I was totally amazed. It looked like someone took a white-wash brush against the sky. You could probably count the dark spots, but not the stars.

It sure wouldn't hurt to try! Getting an RV and getting out of Dodge is the best thing-LOL! My favorite place to get away from light is Big Bend National Park, but it's a 12 hour drive towing my camper, so the trips are few and far between.

Beautiful shot. In this case it is less light pollution than enhancement. Was walking on an isolated Australian beach some years ago on a clear moonless night with a friend who grew up in Seoul. I idly commented on the milky way. He looked up, gasped, and admitted he had never seen it. A few minutes later I grabbed him to keep him from walking into the surf as he was trying to walk with his head up.

I decided to try to get some Milky Way shots early Monday morning, but was worried about the light pollution. In this case, I like how it backlit the windmill! Shot with Nikon D750, Nikkor 17-35mm 2.8 @ 17mm, f/4 @20seconds, and ISO 4000.

Nice shot.
